I get everything working, then something breaks… So, I have some video from the first part of the meeting. The viewer never connected to voice. Took me a bit to realize it. Multi-tasking tends to promote oversights.

I’m still a bit loopy recovering from pneumonia. I messed up the video of this meeting. Oops.
One of the problems is the BVH animation files. The SL viewer-server upload of BVH runs an animation optimization process. Movements smaller than a certain amount are removed. This is creating a problem for those animating the new facial bones. Small movements are needed for subtle facial expressions. The BVH process filters them out. Continue reading →
Gaia has a new post up on Machinimatrix.org. According to the announcement they have reached the end of design and are going into a user-testing phase. Those that have filed trouble tickets on the Machinimatrix bug reporter will get their copies of 2.0-24 first. The rest of us, later.
There is a load of documentation in this announcement. So, check it out.
There are people using a 2.0 version for their main production tool. However, others are having problems. I think many of the problems are from a lack of documentation. It is hard to keep the docs up to date with an in-development product. Much less make the video tutorials.
If AvaStar 2.0 finalizes we will start to see more tutorials arriving.
I thought we would be in the no change window all this week. But, the Lindens have decided to roll last week’s RC update to the main channel… or they automated the forum posting like they did the status reports… naw.

The package rolling to the main channel is listed as having ‘improved internal server logging’. So, it makes sense to me that there is little likelihood of new bugs being introduced by adding and changing logging features. This morning about 11:30 AM The Lindens announced Project Bento is now live. The main Linden viewer has updated to include Bento. Firestorm has talked about releasing their Bento capable viewer next Monday the 12th. I suspect if things go well for them they will release an update. But, FS is picky about quality, so there could be delays. Still I’ll bet on next Monday.
The Firestorm viewer is used by half to three-quarters of SL users. The Linden viewer is used by a quarter to a third of SL users. So, until Firestorm adopts something many developers and merchants consider too few people as being able to use the feature to justify releasing products using the feature. Continue reading →
The Bento RC viewer updated Thursday: RC Second Life Bento Viewer version 126.96.36.1991958. The Lindens fixed a skin weighting problem that a previous fix aggravated. Provided no new issues turn up to block the release we will see it go live soon. As of now they are soaking up user run time data. With enough testing time with no problems they will promote it. Meaning Bento will go live grid wide.

The Bento release date is creating a challenge for setting a Firestorm release date. The Lindens are officially starting their No Release Window 12/16 and it will run to 1/2/2017. The FS team was thinking about releasing their update 12/18.
Oz says the Lab’s actual shut down starts 12/19. While people are officially around as the holiday starts on Friday, many are planning to be gone before then. Continue reading →
Daria of Mesh Body Addicts blog has a video explaining Bento. It is great for the person that is just interested in knowing enough to understand what it is about and what the difference between the classic skeleton we have not and the new Bento Skeleton,
Daria promises to provide more information in a future animation.
The people working with mesh clothes will notice Daria’s ideas about collision bones is a bit off, not as precise as one would need for a tutorial. But, for a light weight explanation she is accurate.
