Second Life News 2016 w46

The main channel of servers updated today, starting at 3AM SL Time, according to the grid status notices. That is the time of day with the fewest users. My tracker shows the minimum number of concurrent users is between 2 and 4 AM each day, about 19,000 to 25,000 this year. Peak use is about 2 to 3 PM and 2 to 3 times as many people, averaging about 55,000 in 2016 and peaking at 58,153.

This update ran on the RC channels last week. It contains some changes to the scripting language, a bug fix, and minor internal changes.

There is no new update for the RC channels, probably next week.

Second Life: Strange Windlight Setting

Kitsune Shan has an interesting video on Facebook. LINK – WordPress doesn’t know what to do with Facebook video… there is probably a plugin… But… I’m not into that today.

I found it was hard to see the Windlight settings in Kitsume’s video. I had to do some clicking to get to where I could read them. So, this picture will make it a bit easier. (Right-click and Open Link in New Tab) Mine is not an exact copy of hers. I was using sliders and watching the image. There are a lot of possibilities.

Second Life: Third Party Viewers and Project Bento

I don’t cover the Third-Party Viewers as much as I used to. I think Project Bento is a change that will make any viewer without Bento capability obsolete. Some Third Party Viewers are already Bento capable. Here is what I have found.

…and I may have made mistakes about which viewer does and doesn’t have Bento capability. If you see one please correct me.

Second Life: Disappearing Attachments

Some people are experiencing losing attachments when they cross to a new region or teleport. I’ve had it happen a couple of times. It is apparently a significant problem for a number of people. A thread about it is here: Avatar attachments continually being detached.

Second Life Third Party Dev’s Meeting 2016 w/44

Oz Linden was saying on last Friday that one more bug fix coming for the RC Second Life Bento Viewer version 5.0.0.321250. Then it will be a candidate for release as the main viewer. This means we will very likely have Project Bento this year and may be before Thanksgiving.

RC Second Life Maintenance Viewer version 4.1.2.321183 is doing well. It could and likely will release before the Bento viewer.

While the order of release is not clear, inside or outside the Lab, the Lindens do expect one to release before Thanksgiving, in a couple of week and the other will become the default a couple weeks after first of December.

Second Life: Firestorm & Linden Viewers

For the past few weeks I’ve been using Firestorm 4.7.9.50527 and Linden 4.1.2 and 5.0.0.320160 (Bento). These versions are much better than the pre-September versions that were out. I suppose some of the improvement is my change to a newer computer with 32GB of RAM. But, I still crash.

This version of Firestorm is much better than the previous version. I have found that if I am online for more than an hour I will likely crash on exit. This means if I change any Preferences, I need to relog after making the change or backup the settings (recommended). When FS crashes it does not save the settings so, changes in the session are lost.
