More VR Support

We have seen the links in the Sansar Atlas that let you send people to a Sansar Experience. But, once there they meet the hassle of download, install, try to re-find the experience… not good.

Now the Firefox browser supports Rift and Vive. That puts us a step closer to having a clear path from the web into VR.

Google is launching VR support in Chrome for Android and Daydream.

You’ll notice the VR people are assuming you know a lot about VR and they leave a lot out of their writing.

Desk top users, if you want to know if your Firefox is updated or ready to update, open the browser’s HELP and look in ABOUT.

For those of us in Second Life(TM) doing production work, we’ll want to wait for the main release. This version has new rendering engine stuff, which while improving baking of textures does little else for us.

If you use the archive install process for Blender it is easy to have multiple copies of Blender and AvaStar installed and working. The Archive Install is simply a matter of getting the ZIP version and unzipping a to a folder. Run from the folder. It is a separate and completely functional copy of Blender. You can add AvaStar and other modules without affecting other versions of Blender. WAY handy.

What you learn from reading all that…

For VR HTC Vive or Rift are your options. Otherwise, it is a 2D PC thing. A viewer is needed.

2,000 people have been in the closed Beta.

At about 35-50 avatars the system instances the experience. If you have played in games with shards, you understand instancing. Drax and Maxwell were playing with instancing to see how it worked. I’m not sure they figured it out.

Drax had enough people coming into 114 Harvest, his experience, to likely have the experience instanced.
