Second Life: Open Source DJ Software

MIXX DJ Software

I came across this in my daily reading. KirstenLee Cinquetti started posting in the KirstenLee blog. There are two new posts apparently the first since 2015. Whatever, there is this interesting software for those DJ’ing in Second Life™.

See: K’s Software Pick of The Week! This is an article about the software MIXX. See it here: DJ Your Way. For Free. I don’t DJ in SL, but it looks way neat…

KIRSTENLEE Viewer Lives?

Long ago (2013 and before) KirstenLee Cinquetti made the KirstenLee Viewer. The S19 version was about the last in the series. Until the updates stopped KirstenLee’s Viewer was the photographer’s viewer of choice. It was my daily-use viewer.

KirstenLee Viewer April 2017

I suppose the Black Dragon Viewer could be said to have taken over a similar position in the community. Firestorm Viewer is now my choice for photography.

However, back in 2013 there was a bit of a controversy in June 2013: S19 Viewer Controversy. There were also some health issues in KirstenLee’s family before the controversy that I thought were the primary reason for discontinuing the viewer updates.

KirstenLee is again compiling a viewer. See: KV SPRING CLEAN… You’ll find the viewer in SourceForge under Kirstens Viewers. I am not endorsing the viewer nor have I used it. But, I do find it interesting that it still lives.

Also, this viewer had an Anaglyph 3D feature (the middle image in the image), which would be a good reason to try it out.

Anaglyph 3D: The 3D that uses Red-Blue glasses to see 3D. A problem with anaglyphic viewing is distorted color.

I have my Samsung VR Gear and an S8 in process… woohoo!

Fantasy Faire 2017 Warning

Fantasy Faire (FF) is always awesome and it certainly is this year. I enjoy trekking through the regions. But, that is a challenge this year. Trying to walk from region to region is almost always failing, stripping off scripts, reducing ACI, and checking the population in my destination region are all failing.

Fantasy Faire 2017 – Morbus

I can walk across the region boundary but, then I am on one of those no-control-rubberbanding-walks. Before I ever recover the system logs me off.

My solution has been to use the world map to teleport into each region when I reach the boundary. So, far it seems to work way better. I can now see why so many are using the Fairelands Portals.

I am also finding the scripted things in many regions seem to not be working. I’ll hope for a Tuesday restart and revisit.

Content Creation UG 2017 w16

On Thursdays the Content Creation UG meets at 1PM SLT in Hippotropolis Campfire, AGNI. (URL) Medhue Simoni and I are both recording it. You’ll find his video here: Second Life Content Creation Meeting 4-20-17. (760p) He is playing with streaming. So, you can watch the meeting live streamed in his channel.

This video is my recording. (1080) It is missing the first 15 minutes. But, the silent portions of the video are time-compressed to lessen run time. Plus a bit of post meeting discussion is included.

I do the video to experiment and practice with Adobe Premiere. The big difference between the two videos is I use a SpaceNavigator and Medhue is using a mouse.  Continue reading

Second Life: SL Main Viewer Update 2017 w16 – New Features

4/14 the main viewer updated to version 5.0.4.325124. If you have automatic update on, you likely already have the update installed. This version was the RC maintenance version. Release Notes

Garden escape...

This version will now remember if you want to Fully Render a specific avatar that exceeds your ACI setting. You can set an avatar to render as; Default, Always, or Never.

In Preferences->Graphics there is a setting to always render friends regardless of ACI setting. Plus, an EXCEPTIONS button so you can edit who you render or don’t. You can also add people using the + in the upper right. That opens a ‘chooser’ where you can search for a name, or another tab lets you pick from friends, and another tab to pick from nearby avatars. Second Life News 2017 w16

Server

The main channel got an update Tuesday. This is the one with; several internal fixes and two new internal logging modes, another adjustment to fix issues with offline IM and Group Notice delivery reliability, and fixes an issue where large numbers of objects could be returned after a rolling restart.

Graveyard of the Butterflies – Monument

The RC channels are getting two new packages. One is the one with increased population limits. That goes on Blue Steel and Le Tigre. The other has not been announced (TBD). It will be on Magnum.

At the Server-Scripting UG they claim the TBD is a top-secret project. You’ll have to decide if they are messing with us or being serious. Both are possible. Continue reading

Second Life: Will We Bake Our Mesh Body Avatars?

The idea of baking mesh avatars has been a subject coming up in the Content Creators UG over the last couple of weeks. The idea is to change how mesh avatars work. If you don’t understand how a Classic body layers work now, this may be confusing. I’ll try to sort it.

Starting back a couple of years, the Lindens added Server Side Appearance baking (SSA). The Classic avatar is made of three separate parts; head, upper body, and lower body. The parts allow layering of textures placed on the Classic body. Sort of like sticking decals one a top another.  Continue reading

AvaStar-Blender: Switching from IK to FK and Back

Medhue streamed a tutorial this weekend. He was showing how to switch between IK and FK animating. In September 2014 I was facing that problem and posted a tutorial titled: Blender-AvaStar Animation IK/FK Tip because I couldn’t find any tutorials saying how to change between the two animating styles.

I think the video is a way better tutorial on switching between the two styles than my old ‘text’ tutorial.
