Servers

This week a package 17.05.05.326149 rolled out to the main channel. This package adds the server side of new Parcel Access Override for Estate Managers and Owners. Plus, support for the new Trash purging process. As yet we do not have the viewer side of the change for Parcel Access. The new Trash purging process is supported by the new default viewer.

Blue Steel and Le Tigre channels get the package 17.05.19.326482. This package includes the Parcel Access Override and a bug fix: BUG-100704 “[Server] If Anyone Can visit is selected after Allow Group was set only group members can enter“. This has created some confusion and locked some people out unintentionally.

The Magnum channel is supposed to get a package, but which has not been decided…

Second Life – Slink Update?

Check this video…

This video is about how to use AvaStar and the Slink Developer Kit. If you notice the file name in the top menu of Blender you’ll notice is says: …\BentoVersionMarch2017\… My kit is labeled March 2016. So, to me this means an updated kit, which would be great as the current one is a bit of a PITA.

The video was posted to YouTube May 19, 2017, last Friday. In it Siddean Munro uses AvaStar2.0.30 and Blender 2.78. AFAIK, the latest versions are 2.0.45 and 2.78c… with 2.79 getting close to release.

Second Life – Please tell us…

Mesh Body Addicts is running their first survey of 2017. Please stop by and answer the questions. There are only 13… Luckily it isn’t Halloween. No fear.

See: Mesh Body & Head Survey 2017

I’ll have more to say about this video in a following article.

Daria lists 26 bodies in the survey when asking which you wear most often. 26! Plus, “other”… Amazing. In only a few months we have a load of competing brands and models.

Second Life – Inventory Loss Warning, Yikes!

Have you heard about people losing inventory? Probably. Seems there is a bug on the loose that can clean you out.

I answer lots of questions on the SL Forum. I hear a constant stream of “I lost…” Mine and several other people’s best answer has been the Firestorm Wiki page: Missing Inventory. But, those steps do not work for this problem.

Today I see there is currently a more serious problem. And even worse, my best-informed authority on such matters, Whirly Fizzle, says there is no fix, for now. Ouch!

So, what is the bug and how are people losing inventory?

Here is what people describe happening. They get a popup saying Trash is full or overflowing. It has a button to empty Trash now. I suggest always selecting LATER. Avoid emptying trash from the popup.

They click EMPTY NOW and poof stuff they are certain was not in trash poofs away.

Second Life – Third-Party Viewer Developers UG 2017 w/20

Oz Linden has his 64-bit viewer crash for the first time since he’s been using it. I’ve used it for weeks and only seen a couple of crashes.

The HTTPAssets Viewer got an update in week #20.

Voice is the same version. It has an ‘elevated’ crash rate. They haven’t yet figured out why. So, it won’t be promoting any time soon.

The maintenance viewer has the new Estate Manager controls. This is the more likely viewer to get promoted.

Expect a 64 bit RC release in a couple of weeks (#22 or #23). The last functional update has gone to QA. Expect it to update in week 21.
