Second Life’s Content Creators’ UG May 31, 2018

My Thursdays have been busy. I’ve been missing the Content Creators’ meetings. Today I made it. There is some  new news.

The meeting has moved back to Animesh4, ADITI, Second Life ™. Took a minute or two to track them down. Then my OBS wasn’t picking up the audio. It took me a bit to figure out what was wrong. The video is missing the first 10 minutes.

Video Index

00:10 – The Land Impact cost for Animesh has been reduced from 200 to 15 plus additional cost for the total polygon count and kickers for LoD use. Poor LoD will drive up the cost.

This actually changed a couple of months ago. Vir Linden posted about the changes here: Animesh – Updated Limits and Cost Formulas.

I think the current RC Animesh viewer has these changes.

03:20 – All cost formulas in use have problems. Lindens are working on it.

04:00 – Stress testing for Animesh… most of the testing was done during Bento development.

Second Life News 2018 w22

Monday was a US holiday, Memorial Day. So, today is the Lab’s first workday this week. As of 10 AM SLT this morning there is no Deploy post. But, there is some HOT new news today. See the Other News section.

From the Server-Scripting meeting, Simon Linden: Let’s see … for server news, we had a rollback last week of the RC channels for a bug.  I think there was a post somewhere about that. We’re going to have updates out tomorrow that have that fixed … and possibly another release that has a few other items in it.  It’s all internal changes, as far as I know.

Intel vs AMD for Second Life

Second Life™ users want performance. Most of you know Second Life is NOT an optimized game world but rather a hobbyists-built world that can drag even the best gaming machine down to single digit frame rates. So, performance is a thing among SL users.

CPUs are the heart of performance with the GPU being the legs.

Both Intel and AMD have new CPUs out. So, the natural question is which is best for running Second Life?

In general, this is how the two stack up in head to head testing. (8+ min)

For some data processing in the beginning AMD is noticeably ahead. Yet in the games similar to Second Life the Intel consistently renders about 5±% more frames.

Mystery Booms and Bangs Around the World

I am curious. So, my interests are wide ranging. For years I’ve heard of unexplained booms and UFOs. (Now renamed Anomalous Aerial Vehicles – AAVs.) But, I have yet to find people providing realistic explanations or even good evidence. So, it is easy write these reports off as part of the conspiracy crowd’s enchantment. But, good evidence is mounting. Mostly due to the proliferation of cameras and microphones around the world.

The number of booms reported and RECORDED is increasing. So, something is making noise. Booms are common in SoCal. We have Camp Pendleton and their artillery practice. But, that doesn’t explain it for most of the world nor even all the booms in SoCal. The marines do not practice every day.

This is one of the more ‘reasonable’ sounding videos proclaiming we do not know. However, if one looks at the collection of videos posted in this channel… if your skepticism doesn’t jump to the red zone, you you likely should be classed as gullible.
