Second Life – Inventory Loss Warning, Yikes!

Have you heard about people losing inventory? Probably. Seems there is a bug on the loose that can clean you out.

I answer lots of questions on the SL Forum. I hear a constant stream of “I lost…” Mine and several other people’s best answer has been the Firestorm Wiki page: Missing Inventory. But, those steps do not work for this problem.

Today I see there is currently a more serious problem. And even worse, my best-informed authority on such matters, Whirly Fizzle, says there is no fix, for now. Ouch!

So, what is the bug and how are people losing inventory?

Here is what people describe happening. They get a popup saying Trash is full or overflowing. It has a button to empty Trash now. I suggest always selecting LATER. Avoid emptying trash from the popup.

Second Life – Third-Party Viewer Developers UG 2017 w/20

Oz Linden has his 64-bit viewer crash for the first time since he’s been using it. I’ve used it for weeks and only seen a couple of crashes.

The HTTPAssets Viewer got an update in week #20.

Voice is the same version. It has an ‘elevated’ crash rate. They haven’t yet figured out why. So, it won’t be promoting any time soon.

The maintenance viewer has the new Estate Manager controls. This is the more likely viewer to get promoted.

Expect a 64 bit RC release in a couple of weeks (#22 or #23). The last functional update has gone to QA. Expect it to update in week 21.

This is pretty neat. I think it impressive animation. You’ll find the animation is from Abranimations (Map URL).

Vir Linden had nothing new on viewers. He often tells us about what he is doing with a specific viewer.

This week Vir has been working on the Animated Objects. Currently the work is in the nature of proof of concept. Next week he will start to look at server side changes that will be needed.

A total trivia bit is: Vir uses a SL Birthday Bear for his animation test subject.

Servers

OK, we started out the day having no idea what was deploying this week. The Deploys thread had not updated as of 12:30 SLT 5/16. – OK, later in the day Caleb got the post stickied and out where people can find it.

And now for something a little different
And now for something a little different

We do know the server operating system update of the previous week on Le Tigre was rolled back.

My update tracking at my home, main channel, shows no restart today (2:40PM 5/16).

The Deploy post, now that Whirly pointed me to it and now that someone changed the stickiness of the posts, shows no roll for the main channel
