Second Life ACI is SO Screwed…

…I 23k mesh hair has an BD-ACI of 196,614. Putting on a 2013 hair with a FS-ACI 90k the BD-ACI is 196,819. Digging I find a 2010 hair with a FS-ACI 159k and BD-ACI 193,146. I don’t know how NiranV does his calc for ACI. If I remember correctly he did explained it some time ago. Whatever, we see difference factor of 8+ times. The size of the numbers is not important. It is the difference between them. The LL and FS viewer give a difference between t… Continue reading

Second Life: Third Party Viewer UG 2016 w38

…vatars ‘not rendering you’ for no apparent reason, assuming you have a low ACI. The variation in ACI for BUG-37642 is often huge, 2x or more. If you run into this please report your information in the JIRA. Oz mentions the ACI calculation does have a distance factor due to LoD. But, the Lindens are considering whether that is something to keep. I notice I can see some avatars render OK and as I get closer they go over my limit (350k on the new mac… Continue reading

Mesh Body ACI Values Compared

…I wanted the list arranged in order of ACI so I could see the best, lowest ACI, and worst, highest ACI, for lag. So, I resorted the list: 1. Belleza Isis – 7,462 (full version); 3940 (Lite version) (Including hands and high feet) 2. Belleza Venus – 7,750 (full version); 4,02 (Including hands and high feet) 3. Belleza Freya – 7,880 (full version); 4168 (Lite version) (Including hands and high feet) 4. eBody v8.2 – 8,066 (including hands and classic… Continue reading

Second Life’s Render Complexity – Discussion Starting

…om for drama. The Lab has made an effort to avoid setting up standards for ACI. Is an ACI of 100k good or bad? The Lindens don’t officially have an opinion. They seem to be going with less is better for this one. So, 100k is better than 150k. But, whether 100k or 150k is good or bad is rationally said to depend on what the designer tried to accomplish. A pencil skirt shouldn’t have an ACI of 200k, IMO. But, an Elizabethan gown with an ACI of 200k… Continue reading

Are Second Life’s Jelly Babies Breaking SL?

…card is actually having to render. I do know that if you enable display of ACI and zoom in and out you can see the ACI value changing, which suggests something is happening with the LoD calc. Utilizator404 thinks the calc is not done in real time. I am not sure why. The changing ACI on zoom would seem to suggest the calc is happening in, at least, near real time. It is also said the ACI calc is ‘horribly inaccurate’. Nowhere, that I know of, has t… Continue reading

Second Life: Jelly Babies Grow Up

…nd what would we do about it anyway? So, this nice outfit has a really low ACI. Notice the color of the ACI numbers (I have Advanced->Performance->Show Avatar Complexity enabled). They start to turn yellow around 130k. Orangish around 250k and red a bit above that. I don’t know that these colors will be the final set or change points. Or that after a time they won’t change. But, I don’t see the values as restricting what we wear. I did notice that… Continue reading

Second Life – How to Lower ACI – A Script

…hat in the Linden viewer has an ACI of 4,699. Using the script reduces the ACI by 702. That is a saving of 15±%. This is my first try, so I have no idea if this is typical, minimal, or a max. You may find that high ACI items benefit more. There is some degradation in the appearance. When zoomed out, it is barely noticeable. Only when zoomed in can you see the difference. Personally, the 702 ACI saving is not worth the loss of appearance. I am stan… Continue reading
