Sansar Creation Bits – More How To…

Sansar Forum… sort of. The big discussion there is how to stop people from making SL-Like-Name-Tags. It is surprising how many people are full on fascist-like in how they want to control others. How do we make everyone do it my way!?!

The forum is pretty badly formatted and awkward to read. The Lab is aware and plans to change it to something more ‘forum-like’. The change is not currently scheduled. (Reference) I mean… it isn’t like they have anything else to do…

Sansar ‘Grid’ Status… They say they’ll post planned outages on this page.

Avatar Skeletons… As of July 6, 2017, there were no models or skeletons available. The Lab just isn’t there yet. (Reference) So, no avatars, no ‘rigged’ clothes. There are, however, Sansar Reference Avatar models.

However, making things that can be attached to the avatar is possible. Examples are here. If your attachments attach in the wrong places read this: Importing avatar accessories – attaches in the wrong place – solution? A 3D Max tutorial is available on YouTube by Jesse Thompson: 3DS Max Avatar Attachment Guide for Sansar.

The official instructions are here: Avatar attachments (accessories). This is what you want to read if you are just trying to figure out how to make an attachment. I had to experiment to see how this works in Blender.

The female avatar has 24,000+ faces in the body and 9,000+ in the head-neck for about 34,000 total. The SL Avatar has about 7,000+.

Sansar Creation – General How To Overview

You’ve visited Sansar and gone Atlas Hopping with Drax. So, you know how to walk and get around. What about the building tools?

Start with Managing your Scenes and Experiences to understand how your ‘region’ will be made public and allow others in. In Second Life™ we change settings to keep people out. In Sansar, we change settings to let people in. I suppose that difference has profound philosophical design implications…

Sansar has a My Experiences App. At first, I thought this was something else to download. It isn’t. The app is built into the main viewer, which consists of an update app, a login app, and the viewer app that chain together to look like a single app.

Sansar Atlas Page 2017

If you haven’t found them yet, the release notes appear here: Sansar >  Sansar News and Announcements >  Release Notes. There is a wealth of reference material in the July notes.

There are also tutorials or an online manual here: Creating in Sansar. I’ll point out people are asking me how to build in Sansar. I am curious too. Google was not helping. The pages I list here are not coming up in Google, which explains a lot of the problem. Oddly they pop up first in Bing and Yahoo searches. For those tired of censored search content and user tracking, there is always DuckDuckGo.com, where Sansar searches also work.

Second Life – Content Creation UG 2017-08-10

Well, I did something wrong. The video did not record. I got an hour of audio and a single screen capture for the entire hour. Useless. It looked to be working when I started. But…

So, I’ll write an index for Medhue’s Live Stream.

Medhue doesn’t post process the video so there are spikes and drop outs in Audio. His microphone is messing up too. That was just audible in his stream. I didn’t hear the static in-world. But, it’s tolerable. Just keep your finger close to the volume control.

This week’s meeting was informative and we have some NEW news.

Index

00:00-05:55 – You’ll see Medhue setting up the Live Stream and posting in groups that the meeting is starting. At one point, there were 41 people in the meeting and another 21 on the live stream. That is a big meeting for a User Group. We usually only see that many at a meeting when the pitchforks and protest signs come out.

06:00 – Meeting starts. Alexa Linden tells us that she has distributed instructions for how to build the Animesh Project Viewer. They are devising and writing up plans for testing Animesh. This viewer is changing to fast to release a version to the community. Plus, there are a couple of features Vir wants in before it goes to testers.

Corrections made 8/9

The main channel was updated with version #17.07.27.327933 this morning, Tuesday. Last week the main channel was running version #17.07.11.327548. Both of these are listed as having “internal changes”. Geek-speak for changing data reporting, debugging, and performance information… usually.

Blue Steel, Le Tigre, and Magnum were supposed to update to #17.07.27.327933 tomorrow, Wednesday. But, Simon tells us that isn’t going to happen. There probably won’t be a restart as they restarted with last week’s update. The Lindens try to restart regions once every two-weeks even if there is no planned update.

No big problem, but enough of one the Lindens decided to hold the RC update back. It had to do with regions names not being applied correctly in the restart, so they never appeared to come online.

The Deploys thread is dying. There is very little discussion or information to be gleaned from reading the posts. They are basically a day, time, and link to release notes. So, I suspect fewer people are reading the posts. I expect the posts to go away at some point.

Feedly – Deleting Dead Feeds

I went to delete a dead, unreachable feed in my Feedly and I couldn’t. Not something I often have to do. But, I couldn’t find a way to delete the feed. Normally I can click a feed and use the FOLLOWING button that appears in the upper right of the page. Cursor over the button and it changes to EDIT and one can remove the feed. But, not with a DEAD or UNREACHABLE feed. There is no ‘FOLLOWING’ button.

Removing unreachable feeds in Feedly – 2017 Aug

All the articles I could find using Google were no help. They all said to select the feed, go to the FOLLOWING button… I got no FOLLOWING button. Or select the feed and at the bottom of the column will be a ‘remove’ button. Nope. Not there.

It took a few minutes for me to start experimenting and find out how to accomplish the task. It isn’t hard, but the interface for removing a dead feed is different. You cannot remove a dead feed as you would an inactive feed or one you’ve lost interest in.

Click the GEAR icon and all the tools you need are there. I have no idea how long it has been since I clicked that gear icon. I don’t remember these tools being there. But, they are a good set of cleanup tools.

Update 11/2018: Things have changed a little. Still, click the gear. The page will show a list of your feeds. Move the cursor over the listed feed. You can select it by clicking in the box on the left end of the entry Then in the upper right there is an unfollow button. Or at the right end of the item is an unfollow icon button when (trashcan) the entry is cursored-over.

Both of these are very light in color. If your monitor is out of adjustment you may not be able to see them.

More VR Support

We have seen the links in the Sansar Atlas that let you send people to a Sansar Experience. But, once there they meet the hassle of download, install, try to re-find the experience… not good.

Now the Firefox browser supports Rift and Vive. That puts us a step closer to having a clear path from the web into VR.

Google is launching VR support in Chrome for Android and Daydream.

You’ll notice the VR people are assuming you know a lot about VR and they leave a lot out of their writing.
