OMG! The splash screen of the Firestorm and Phoenix viewers is announcing the development team is quitting viewer development to form a band.

SHOCKING! Can you believe it?
Well… not on April 1st you can’t.
Second Life and Virtual Worlds
We all hear about problems with Direct Delivery. We also hear the Lindens aren’t fixing things… whatever you think, there are some objective numbers in the JIRA.
The Market Place seems to fall in the Realm of the Web Project. That project also includes the JIRA, Wiki, and other Second Life web sites. It would be easy to say the Lindens are doing all they can to hide everything the Commerce Team does. I personally think it would have been better to break out DD as a separate project. But, the combination is what we have.

Yesterday the Commerce team was going to take the Market Place down for changes about 5 AM. Then that was going to be put off until Monday. Then they rescheduled it to 10 AM yesterday. They did take the Market Place from about 10 to 11:30 AM Thursday, yesterday.
We still don’t know what was changed or fixed. Just that the site was down.

We do know there is a small problem with Direct Delivery Bears over populating the world. That problem has been solved with a small nuke.

I think it was SassyRomano’s finger on the button.
Lance describes this release of Dolphin 3 Viewer an important release and I agree. This release has a working Merchant’s Outbox. This version works on Windows, Mac, and Linux. Previously even on Windows the Outbox was shaky.
One added feature in Dolphin 3 is the length of the Merchant Outbox’s time out, which has been extended, doubled. This should reduce problems encountered when the Market Place (MP) is running slow.

RLV users will appreciate that the control for RLV Height Offset has been changed to make it easier to use.
Today we found out the Lindens are moving the Pathfinding server code to the main grid. It will only be running on selected sandbox regions and in the Premium sandboxes. Pathfinding is still in Open Beta. Changes are coming quickly. If I understood correctly, the newest server code will appear on ADITI. A slightly older version will be running in AGNI sandboxes.
Oskar Linden has opened the Alpha Pathfinding as Beta Pathfinding and placed the code in AGNI sandboxes. You can get more details here: Pathfinding Public Beta.
This is general news from different sources. Some interesting stuff.
Tuesday the simulators were restarted for the main grid. The Lindens usually only do this when they need to update the software running on the sims. But, again not this week.
The release channels got a different roll out than I anticipated and the Lindens had suggested. Magnum is running the multi-threaded region crossing code. This is the package with the Phase I infrastructure upgrade that has been cycling in and out of the release channels for a few weeks. As Oskar Linden says, they are letting it “soak” awhile longer.
