New Content Creation Group

Geenz Spad from the Exodus Dev Team is chairing a new user group. Oz Linden will be the liaison between the group and Linden Lab. He may be at some of the meetings. But, since 3PM SLT is 5PM EDT it is late for him and after hours.

You can find the groups home page in the SL Wiki: Content Creation Improvement Informal User Group.

Meetings will be in-world in the Hippotropolis Auditorium, Tuesdays from 3 to 4 PM SLT/PT.

The stated point of the meeting is to find ways to improve rigged mesh and other content. A secondary emphasis is how to improve the viewer to help with content creation.

The first meeting will be a good one to attend.

PS: Squirrely Wrath is accepting donations of nuts… only the food kind. No wackadooles.

Restrained Love v2.8.3.3 Released

A new version of the RLViwer is out. They have added the new Spell Checker and Auto-Replace that we will see in Linden Lab viewers. Don’t confuse the meaning here to be that Linden Lab developed it. I think most of the development by Kitty Barrnet. Oz Linden did some coding on it. But, it get all confusing as to who did what when.

There are some bug fixes included.

Download the Restrained Love Viewer (RLV). This is a non-standard install. Click RLV in the details to the right to find other articles on RLV and how to install it. The site has instructions but if they don’t do it for you, may be mine will help.

#SecondLife News Week 26

The Lab is doing a bit of server update dance this week. The roll outs took longer than past roll outs on Tuesday, or that is the rumor from some people’s subjective experience. New roll out tools are being used. They will be optimized and get faster as time passes. One of the new features, if I understand correctly, is the ability to update the server’s operating system and roll out a new simulator package too.

Server Scripting User Group

So, this week we get new operating systems and simulator updates.

Magnum Release Channel

This channel was to get the Pathfinding package. Actually it did. BUT… there were problems with the package. So, it was rolled back and the Pre-rendered Avatar Textures package was rolled to the Magnum channel.

Second Life Stable Viewer 3.3.3 (260300)

We got a new release of the SL Viewer from Linden Lab: 3.3.3 (260300). I’ve crashed it several times. So, I’m not very happy with it. I tried using the previous version at the crowded Mesh User Group. It crashed as soon as I took a picture. It also tended to ‘occasionally’ crash on exit. So, one is probably as well off with the newer one. It tends to crash on exit too.

Spell Check & Auto-Replace

This new version does not yet have Spell Check or Auto-Replace. It does have 78 different fixes. You can find the list of fixes here.

I don’t notice any control changes. But, I’m only making a quick look.

Mesh Deformer 0.3x Limits

I like tight clothes. I think they look sexy on either gender. So, when making mesh clothes I like to make them tight. Of course when making them for myself based on my custom shape, getting things to fit right is not much a problem. Then there is the coming Mesh Deformer. If I want to use the Mesh Deformer to make my clothes fit should I decide to change my shape or sell them to others, then I need to use the Default Shape as my modeling base.

My Skirt Beginning

Problem

The current version of Deformer in the Deformer Project Viewer is 0.3x. A new version is in development. We’ve heard a few things about the coming 0.4 version. Hopefully it will fix some issues I am running into. But, the Alternate Deformer may be a better solution. We won’t know for some time.
