Second Life: NEW BONES, New AvaStar 2.0

This is a big deal. I’ll get into what it means and what some of the possibilities are.

For years Second Life™ users have been asking for more bones. That would let users make avatars with tails that are easily animated. Or with more than 4 arm-leg appendages. We will be able to have a centaur with 4 legs, two arms, and a tail, something that is way complicated now and pretty lame. Or a spider with 8 legs.

Strawberry Streams

Strawberry Singh is one of the better Second Life™ photographers. She recently tried streaming a photo tips tutorial. It worked pretty well.

You can see the result:

I clipped the first couple of minutes where she was figuring out the streaming software.

This is a good example of using the Firestorm Viewer to adjust your Windlight settings.

Blender: Restore Your Settings

When upgrading Blender there is an option to bring your settings forward from the previous install. Unfortunately, if you start using Blender and do not click the button, the next time you open Blender the button is gone. There is probably some way to get back to it, but no one seems to know how. So, there is a way to manually move your settings to the new install of Blender.

Blender Nation posted a link to this video.

Somewhere in the past I wrote a text tutorial on how to do this. But, this is a really nice, quick, well done video, so a link to my article is pointless.

You can also copy the two files he shows you to a safe place to be a backup of your settings.

Second Life: The New New User Tutorial

Hamlet is on about a video that shows the new user experience. I find those interesting. You can see Hamlet’s comments here: Second Life First-Hour User Experience by Returning SLer. I have the video just below. It is an hour long. Sheeeesh. Will anyone watch the whole thing?

Beau Hindman (YouTube name) made the video. He says he was first in Second Life™ (SL) in 2004 and has not been in SL for some years. So, this is a semi-new user experience.

Beau rambles a lot and stumbles on what he wants to say. He keeps his umm, errr’s to a level I can tolerate. The first 10 minutes is more just telling us what SL is than it is a logical ordered tutorial.
