Servers

There is no deploy post this week. So, we may not hear anything until Thursday’s Beta Server UG meeting.

There were login issues over the weekend. The Lindens think they have that fixed.

Inara didn’t make it to the Server-Scripting meeting. I was out and didn’t make it. So, everyone that didn’t make it to the meeting is just out of luck as to what’s going on. Sorry.

AvaStar 2.5 Released

A new version of AvaStar is out. The official announcement is here, AVASTAR-2.5 IS OUT. There is a link to the download on the page. You will find the detailed release notes link on the download page.

There are the ubiquitous bug fixes, of course. There are also a good number of improvements in how things work and how the user interface is set up. Check the announcement to get the overview.

This release still targets Blender 2.79.

If you have been watching the various announcements and demos of Blender 2.80, you know it will have a very different user interface. I assume AvaStar will have to redesign its interface too. So, this update might be a version to skip… or not. It is sort of learn the AvaStar UI changes now and Blender 2.8 UI changes a bit later and AvaStar 2.6 (?) revised UI after that.

So, my current plan is to stay with Blender 2.79 until I see an AvaStar revised for 2.80. Unless there is something in 2.80 I just MUST have… which I doubt at this point. Deal with just one period of relearning the UI’s. Or not… Just depends on where I am in my projects… and mood.

Second Life: AFK Sex Thing Update

This AFK Sex Thing is a definite growth industry in SL. For many it is controversial. Some feel it is changing SL from a social app to a quick stop orgasm shop. Whatever the case, there are more AFK shops than when I last looked.

There are trends apparent in the shops now. Some are dead… no clients, no workers. These tend to be ‘park your AV here’ places with few requirements and moderate effort put into building the place or publicizing it. Others are jam packed and tend to be well built, advertised, and cater to clients… better customer service (no pun). They have more rules and offer more … services? And the owners have obviously been thinking about how to make things work for the customer and workers.

Sleeping Beauty AFK Sex

The percent paid the works has an influence on whether workers want to be there. But, it is the shop’s requirements for what workers they will accept that may make the big difference. The busy ones seem to require all mesh avatars, which tends to make them way better looking.

The payment thing is changing. In some places failing to tip will result in a region ban. In other places payment is before services are rendered with additional charges up front for live RP. A tip-before-you-sit mentality.

Animesh Land Impact Change – Risk of Autoreturn

Thu, Oct 25 2018 5:47:59 PM PDT

Land impact calculation for Animesh has a bug that will be fixed with server rolls coming as soon as next week. This means if you have Animesh characters on your land, you could have potential land impact increases that cause an oveflow and force things to autoreturn. The specifics are discussed in the forum post below: Animesh Release Delayed.

Second Life: Avatar Makeovers

Strawberry Singh has and article about new ‘makeover’ businesses appearing in SL, The Makeover Agency in Second Life. Hamlet Au has an article on how bad it is (in the classical sense of ‘bad’) that there are ‘makeover’ businesses in SL, Second Life Avatar Fashion So Confusing & Complicated There Are Professional Makeover Agencies.

iRL there are makeover businesses, promotions, and parties. iRL young people are taught how to dress and groom. With all the new tech there are possibilities our parents never thought of. My mom never wove lights into her hair… She never bought Halloween ‘cosmetics’, stage makeup, yes. Zombie cosmetics, no.

iRL part of the fun of being female is all the choices available in clothes and makeup. Choices to a bewildering level. And the rules of what actually works with what while often totally arbitrary are sacred and in some circles and must be broken in other circles with either likely to bring ridicule if improperly broken or followed.

Servers

A roll was made to the main channel Tuesday, #18.10.04.520268. All internal fixes.

The three RC channels and Snack also got updates, #18.10.19.520868 for Blue Steel. Le Tigre and Magnum were not ‘determined’ as to which version they would get. Snack is getting an EEP update, 18.10.19.520844 (?).

There was some mix up in which version of EEP was going out. Some little glitch in operations gave Rider Linden an opportunity to get a newer version of EEP on Snack. So, the 520844 version is probably not the version rolling out. That the region Denby (URL) is running Second Life RC Snack 18.10.20.520891, is a good indication 520891 is the version actually rolled. With the EEP viewer you can see EEP on the main grid.

The fun stuff is still over on the Preview Grid, ADITI.
