Linden Lab Ahead of It Self?

I see the Lab has announced the roll out of the second phase of the Sunshine Project, also known as Server Side Avatar (SSA) baking. See: Project Shining is now complete! This is the part we have been referring to as AISv3. These are the additional server side changes to the Agent (LL-ese for Avatar) Inventory Service (AIS) to fix remaining problems with avatar appearance failures.

The current main SL Viewer has the viewer side code for the latest Sunshine updates. But, only the Blue Steel RC channel has the server side of these changes. So, we won’t actually see the effect of these changes in most of SL until those changes roll grid wide.

Servers

The Deploy announcement is out. The GROUP BAN project is to be promoted to the main grid. That will make it grid wide. You need to get the project viewer to take advantage of the feature. But, whether you have the viewer or not, if you are banned you are banned and will not be able to re-join the group. The project viewer is only needed to DO the banning.

Mesh Clothes

It isn’t common to see people making all four LoD (Level of Detail) levels.  But, we can do the polygon reduction thing for making a lower poly model for use with a normal map. The challenge is in making the lower poly models. Now Mixamo has a ‘decimator’ online that we can use. It is free to use until July 12, 2014.

Bits of News

The new ‘fitted mesh’ avatars for new users were initially released as no-mod. It appears that has been corrected and the new mesh bodies are now mod-ok. Linden Lab announced the change: Updated Mesh Starter Avatars Are Now Available.

Update: Dagger Faulkwing finds that ONLY the shape of the avatars is mod-ok. So, these avatars still really suck.

There were also problems with some avatars’ feet sinking into the ground. They say that is fixed too.

Slink is rumored to be preparing a mesh body for release. A picture of it leaked. I am using the Slink hands and feet now, flat and high. The hands I love. The feet are OK. All the appliers for various things make both way too fun. I love the gloves and nails I can use.
