Servers

Main channel updates to #17.09.22.508905. This version has improvements to email sending, requiring you to have verified your email address. I am a bit confused if they have activated this feature making verification mandatory or not.

Blue Steel, Le Tigre, and Magnum update to #17.09.29.509228. This version fixes that object return stuff after a roll-update as described in;

Discussion at the Server-Scripting UG makes it clear the EEP (Extended Environment Proj – or Improved Windlight) has no effect on SL Wind. Continue reading

Magnum will update to version #17.09.14.508533. It fixes BUG-100505 – “llGetEnv (“agent_limit”) is returning an empty string in Magnum, Le Tigre and Blue Steel regions.”

The only interesting additional information from the Server-Scripting UG meeting is that work on the servers includes an effort to reduce the recent outages. Continue reading

Oops – Land Impact Increase

Seems the system had a problem last week. There is a discussion about it on SLUniverse. After a restart, people were getting stuff returned like crazy. It is hard to know how wide spread the problem may have been. Few people are writing anything Google can find.

People are reporting stores jumping from 40 Land Impact (LI) to 400 LI. No small problem.  Continue reading

Corrections made 8/9

The main channel was updated with version #17.07.27.327933 this morning, Tuesday. Last week the main channel was running version #17.07.11.327548. Both of these are listed as having “internal changes”. Geek-speak for changing data reporting, debugging, and performance information… usually.

Blue Steel, Le Tigre, and Magnum were supposed to update to #17.07.27.327933 tomorrow, Wednesday. But, Simon tells us that isn’t going to happen. There probably won’t be a restart as they restarted with last week’s update. The Lindens try to restart regions once every two-weeks even if there is no planned update.

No big problem, but enough of one the Lindens decided to hold the RC update back. It had to do with regions names not being applied correctly in the restart, so they never appeared to come online.

The Deploys thread is dying. There is very little discussion or information to be gleaned from reading the posts. They are basically a day, time, and link to release notes. So, I suspect fewer people are reading the posts. I expect the posts to go away at some point. Continue reading

Kokua Viewer – End Times

The Kokua viewer is mostly maintained and build by Nicky Perian. Nicky at 75 is sort of retiring from viewer development. This will likely leave Kokua Viewer without a driving force.

Nicky has posted this information on the Kokua blog, Path forward.

Paths

If you are into building viewers, this is an opportunity to head up the project. It will need a new lead developer.

In the meantime, Nicky plans to add in the Alex Ivy 64-bit upgrade. But, during the remaining time Nicky spends with the project until may be October 2017, he will drop RLV support.

I suspect dropping RLV will cost users that use RLV. But, that can’t be helped.

Nicky has been a great contributor to the SL Viewer community. We will miss his contributions. I wish him all the best.

Caleb Linden sort of posts the new deploy information for server software. Those posts have gotten progressively shorter providing less and less information. We are down to it being a pasted in URL to the release notes.

This week we did get a roll to the main channel. The only stated change is a tweak to the ‘asset metrics stats’. I think this is for the change to deliver more assets by the Content Delivery Network (CDN). They are collecting information pre-change to CDN. You’ll see the new viewer needed to support this change in the viewer’s list.  Continue reading

I thought we would be in the no change window all this week. But, the Lindens have decided to roll last week’s RC update to the main channel… or they automated the forum posting like they did the status reports… naw.

The package rolling to the main channel is listed as having ‘improved internal server logging’. So, it makes sense to me that there is little likelihood of new bugs being introduced by adding and changing logging features. The week in testing probably revealed no performance change problems for this package. So, why not roll it out?  Continue reading
