I had never heard of it. But this is apparently the 6th fair. It’s an interesting event with a ton of Full Perm stuff for sale. I runs from March 1 to 22. You’ll find it in Old Europe Village. It is small but jam packed.
Full Perm Fair – March 2015
I am guessing the purpose of the fair is to provide source items for people good at texturing and weak at mesh modeling. Continue reading →
Slink hands and feet got a new update. This update changes how various appliers work with the hands and feet. This is the announcement:
-{ZOZ}- IMPORTANT UPDATE
Monday,02 Mar 2015 15:38:00 GMT
As some may know, Slink released a big update to their hands and feet. This also means that designers have also had an update. In order to use the NEW POLISH HUDS you must UPDATE YOUR HANDS AND FEET. If you have hands or feet older then this last weekend, be sure to go in and have them redelivered to you so the new polish appliers for slink hands and feet work. Yes old huds will work with the new hands. But new huds will not work with old hands. ~Zoz
I skim through the Fab Free site in my Feedly reader. Today it is consumed with stories about The Wash Sale (Biannual – really!?! Every other year?) It has stiff for L$10. You’ll find the stuff in the Wash Sim.
LoD is Level of Detail. It is a term used in 3D modeling to improve performance by reducing the amount of data that has to be rendered. In Second Life™ it seems to be poorly understood and ignored by many. The result is a poorly performing Second Life. This video shows the major problems.
I did not intend to belittle anyone with the video. But, having a ton of poorly rendering mash in a region gave me the extreme example I needed.
Some of Mad Pea’s builds are absolutely gorgeous. But, with a little bit more work they would not have had the LoD failings I was seeing. It may also be that they intended to have the various victims’ business cards be hard to find and they used LoD to make it even harder. I doubt it, but may be… Continue reading →
If you have not yet registered your purchase on the Machinimatrix.org web site, it is time to do so. You need to register to be able to keep a permanent download link and to get your updates. At some point the transfer from the old download to the new registration process will stop working. Gaia is telling that ‘end’ will be SOON.
Also, Gaia has announced a support section of the site where users can provide assistance. See: Just Ask. You need to be registered to use this feature.
From Slink’s official announcement (quoting and paraphrasing):

Slink Free Dress
The new body has a few very nice new features, and resolves some of the issues experienced by users of the previous version.
Fixes:
Resolved a small geometry issue that was causing “ants” (small gap) around the neck seam between the body and either the visage patch or the SL default head, on lower Antialialising settings.
Resolved an issue with the weights on several vertices on the underwear layer that was causing it to clip through the clothing layer on the pelvis region.
Resolved an issue that was causing the Visage neck patch to throw an error when the Neck Fitting buttons were pressed on the Alpha and Clothing Layers HUD.
FabFree is talking about some great sales going on this month. Magika, a hair and clothes maker, is putting their old sculpty hair on sale as they close it out and move on to mesh hair. Single do’s go for L$35 and fat packs for L$100. So, the place is crowded.

Magika has some fun looking matching hair and tails made from mesh.
Magika’s new mesh hair is on display too, on the opposite side from the non-mesh hair. Continue reading →
It isn’t common to see people making all four LoD (Level of Detail) levels. But, we can do the polygon reduction thing for making a lower poly model for use with a normal map. The challenge is in making the lower poly models. Now Mixamo has a ‘decimator’ online that we can use. It is free to use until July 12, 2014.
