Kokua Viewer – End Times

The Kokua viewer is mostly maintained and build by Nicky Perian. Nicky at 75 is sort of retiring from viewer development. This will likely leave Kokua Viewer without a driving force.

Nicky has posted this information on the Kokua blog, Path forward.

Paths

If you are into building viewers, this is an opportunity to head up the project. It will need a new lead developer.

In the meantime, Nicky plans to add in the Alex Ivy 64-bit upgrade. But, during the remaining time Nicky spends with the project until may be October 2017, he will drop RLV support.

I suspect dropping RLV will cost users that use RLV. But, that can’t be helped.

Nicky has been a great contributor to the SL Viewer community. We will miss his contributions. I wish him all the best.

More Sansar Video 2017 w30

There is probably a push to hype Sansar as it nears its limited Beta opening. We see these ‘sneak’ preview videos popping up here and there.

In this one, we see a bit of the in-world building.

I think the user interface requiring one to move their body around is a set of lawsuits waiting to happen. Some creative lawyer is going to figure out how to make a claim stick in strict liability states like Califonia. But, we’ll see.

I personally think stubbing your toes, whacking your shins, or cracking your head while using VR is your fault. But, if there is money to be had, someone will find a way and then more people will jump on.

I think the in-world building looks neat. So, I have to brush up on getting my Gear VR to link into my PC’s display and controls.

Second Life – Lost Password Preparation

Have you ever lost/forgot your Second Life™ password? I have for my Alts. To recover you can file a ticket and they will send you a password recovery email.

In the email you must do 1 of 3 things.

  • Answer your secret question.
  • Name three people in your friends’ list.
  • List payment amounts made to the Lab.

Avoid being tricky with your secret question answer. You have to remember your answer and spell it correctly. Or… write it down. Duh!

If you haven’t copied down some of your friend’s names, do so now. Misspelled names don’t count.

Purchases… seems your annual US$72 is not an acceptable answer as it is too easy to guess. If I forgot my password every week I might record each payment amount. Otherwise, remembering amounts is way too much trouble. Memory is useless. But, you can look in PayPal and get the payment amounts!

Did Photobucket Just Screw You?

An article about a change over at Photobucket just popped up in my news stream. Seems free Photobucket accounts can no longer embed images… you will have to pay for that privilege.

Photobucket – Stopping embedded image service – 2017

But, are they screwing you? No. They have given us free service for years and can no longer afford to do that. So, they have started charging for their service.

If you were/are a Photobucket (PB) user you probably didn’t worry much when you saw this post in PB’s blog.

At Photobucket, we are committed to providing the best experience and services for all of your photo and image needs. We have updated our Terms of Service, effective June 20, 2017. Please take a moment to review our updated terms and policies as they may affect your account.

Yeah… that’s a big effective warning. NOT! Like everyone reads ToS…

There is a longer more informative post here. Since these articles are not dated it is hard to know how much of the user base’s outrage is real and a response to fake-news.
