Imprudence Viewer Beta 5 Review

Imprudence has a new build out, released Sunday. This apparently is not considered a weekly build, but it is this week’s build. The viewer installs over the Imprudence Viewer, not the weekly Imprudence Viewer. This is a standard and SSE2 optimized viewer. See Imprudence SSE2 Optimization to know if you can use the optimized verion. Get the viewer here: Imprudence 1.3.0 beta 5 Released I am excited about this viewer. What has me excited is server … Continue reading

Second Life Popular Viewer? Review?

I’m into viewers and new viewer features. I’m interested in photography, a little machinima, building, and the ability to important and export things I build between OSGrid and Second Life. Most of you know I’m impressed with the Kirsten and the Emerald viewer people. I also like Hippo and Imprudence viewers. All while being underwhelmed by Linden Lab’s SL 2.0 Viewer. When I started getting comments about the Emerald viewer being crap and I shoul… Continue reading

Viewer Updates

Most of this weekend I was working on RL pay me money projects. This afternoon I’m playing and finding the viewer updates. There are more updates out there than I can get to. I did play with Kirsten’s for a bit. Emerald Viewer They have 1.4.0.2270 out. More of the SL 2.0.1 updated have been added in. Looks like mostly bug fixes. Imprudence Viewer A new weekly is out. This does not replace the recent Beta release. The weeklies are for those that w… Continue reading

Naali Viewer Review

This viewer is not for Second Life, but it can be used with SL. I’m not sure why one would… The Naali Viewer is for RealXtend. I decided to look at it to see how RealXtend is handling their freeform meshes, you know like the ones coming to SL. The viewer is large, 72.5 mb of download and 179 mb of disk space. There are currently only Windows versions available, XP, Vista, and Win 7. The Naali viewer is to replace the current viewer used with Real… Continue reading

Cyan Makes Steam

… For those of us playing the Myst series of games… Cyan Worlds, Inc. is placing several of their games on Steam. The announcement is subtle, just a small addition on their ‘Products – Where to buy…’ page. See: Cyan’s Myst Games – It’s a Coming Soon Thing. … Continue reading

Emerald Stats

New World Notes’ Wagner picked up on the high number of SL residents using the Emerald Viewer. See the article there: Shock Stat: Nearly 1 in 3 Second Life Users Reportedly Use the Emerald Third Party Viewer! I suppose it would be a “kind of” surprise to anyone not using Emerald or the newer SL 2 Viewer. In older viewers one cannot see the viewer names in Avatar Name tags. Those people not using a newer viewer would be surprised that ‘so many’ pe… Continue reading

The Loss of Civility

Hate The Alphaville Harold has published an op-ed by FoxM Ember. (10y/07m/10) Using the title I copied, The Loss of Civility. The loss of civility and the inability of people to debate controversial issues and move discussions forward to a rational solution rather devolving into profanity, name calling, and locked threads has long been a concern of mine. I think Fox’s article for the Alphaville Harold is an indication that others have similar con… Continue reading

Are the Linden Lab Layoffs a Good Sign?

I wrote about Linden Lab laying off 30% of staff here: Linden Lab Layoffs. I wrote that in the next few days we would see more information coming from those with an inside line to Linden Lab (LL). New World Notes (NWN) and Massively are following the layoff story and speculating. NWN’s Au is digging out more facts. I think my favorite SL blogger, Gwyneth Llewelyn, in [Reset] and do a 180º turn gives a vastly different insight than many headlines … Continue reading
