Second Life Content Creators’ Meeting 2018 w10

Getting video of these meetings is a PITA. Medhue (1:27 PM) and I (1:08 PM) both were late getting to the meeting. Medhue’s audio has reverb… which generally comes from room echo… the combination of the sound source (talker) and reflected sound from walls reaching the mic at slightly different times. There are no echoes or room reverb in Second Life™. So, the computer’s speaker output has to be fed back via an open mic or duel channels in the recording app. Neither appears to be the case for Medhue…

I got there a bit earlier. I recorded the meeting, so the source is on my computer. I can edit it and clean up the audio. So, this week I’ll use my video. It takes some time to clean up the video and audio. Plus, Thursday is a busy day for me, RL. So, mine comes out later, like Saturday or Sunday.

The first thing you are likely to notice in the video is Vir Linden’s voice is messed up. In Medhue’s video, Vir Linden’s voice is also messed up but in a different way. So, the problem is in the connections or our computers. I have yet to figure out what’s up with mine.

I’ve cleaned the audio up a bit. But, there is only so much repair work one can do.  Continue reading

Second Life Bits 2018 w10

Daniel Voyager has an article on some new regions appearing on the grid. The region names start with “Elemenoh”. They appeared in Tyche Sheppard’s latest grid survey. According to Daniel, they are inaccessible by the typical Second Life™ user. I tried. I couldn’t get in.

So, we know something is up. What is yet to be determined. The Lindens are not talking.

New Region Hygge – March 2018

The Grid Survey is interesting. There are 75 ‘new’ regions, some of those (20) are ‘renamed’ existing regions. Have you tried visiting those ‘new’ regions?

I started visiting the regions on the list. A few are private homes. Many are no access. Presumably closed during construction. A number are for land rental, apartments, houses and yards, skyboxes, and etc. Another group is the gaming regions. A few are empty.

Some of the private home areas are gorgeous.

In general, there isn’t much to see or do. Lots of effort for little reward.

Support Hours – Did you notice? On Monday, February 26th, Premium and Concierge Live Chat services as well as Concierge Phone Supports operating hours changed. The new hours are
9:00AM EST – 6:00PM EST (6:00AM PST – 3:00PM PST), 7 days a week.

Of course, support ticket submission remains available 24 x 7.

It seems odd that support closes just as Second Life reaches its max concurrent users for the day… o.O

Scripting – If you write scripts for Second Life™, you’ll be interested in the new update of the LSL Editor, an open source development tool.

The release notes tell us,

v.2.56.0 released.

So, it seems added functionality is for OpenSim scripting.

The previous release was made in 2013. I don’t do as much scripting as I once did. So, I haven’t tried to script using the functions added to Second Life between 2013 and 2018. I suspect the tool is way out of date in regard to SL functions.

Breaking: Slink Update

There is a Slink update out. I started seeing people talking about it in the Slink, Classy gear for classy babes group.

Slink Versions – It is hard to stay current unless you refer to this page: Slink Versions. It provides the version numbers for the latest versions of hands, feet, body, heads, and HUD’s.

As of late 3/6 or early 3/7, depending…, there is a new ALMOST release from Slink: Petite Augment Pack. The ‘almost’ means info has leaked, but the item is not yet in the Slink store. As of 3/7 @ 3PM SLT/PT.

New Slink Item – Petite Augment Pack

I suppose this is an enhancement for itty-bitty-titties… Is this a new trend or is Siddean Munro just swimming upstream? I don’t know. But, I’m not a fan of blimp size breasts. I think B and C cups are best. So, I think this is pretty neat.  Continue reading

Fashion Bloggers

I’m not that much into fashion review. My GA.EG Jennifer mesh head article provides the type of information that interests me. That article is like 1,500 words. I don’t see that in most fashion reviews. The amount of information normally provided by the hundreds of fashion sites popping up on iHeartSL is a picture and a list of stuff worn. It is sort of customary to include a link to where an item can be purchased, but not always. Continue reading

What’s in My Head…

I’ve been looking for a mesh head for a long time. When it comes to my avatar’s appearance I get picky. My first skin was free and came from a strip club. I then spent months finding the just right skin. I finally decided on a Nomine WL Mocha skin by Munchflower Zaius, an artist that gave up creating because of copyboting (still in Marketplace). It was my first ever big purchase. Paid for from dancing-stripping, camping, and money trees in 2008.

Classic to Bento – Distant

I tend to spend months playing with demos and talking with people when I buy my first body anything. So, feet then hands, then body and now head. Also, I had hoped Slink would come out with a Bento head. But…

I like my classic head. So, I wanted a head that would allow me to have a very similar face. That was harder than I thought. I went through a lot of heads and spent days making shapes. I decided I would never get the look I wanted with some popular heads.

I decided on GA.EG’s Jennifer head. Very quickly I got near the shape/look I wanted. Plus, an included skin matched my favorite YS&YS’ Viola skin. That greatly simplified the addition. I had been planning on having to buy a new skin. My YS&YS to too old to have appliers for Omega and does not have any head applier. Still, I may get a skin with an applier for this new head. News Update 2018 w09

Earlier I reported (ref) on the DDoS attack and linked to the Linden post on the subject. Things seem to be getting better. Concurrent use was back to the mid 40k users.

In the Server-Scripting UG meeting, Simon Linden told us this has been on-going for about 24 hours. April Linden tells us the same in the SL Blog post.

However, from a credible source, I understand the SL Forum went nuts with fake news. So, be aware there are nuts posting on the forum that enjoy creating havoc.  The sad part is some believe what they are saying and think they know something. Others know they are deliberately making mischief.

How do you tell which is real? If you go into the Answers section of the forum and look at the 3 to 6 posts threads, you will find a small number of people consistently answering questions. Those people are mostly trustworthy. When they don’t know, they have been known to say so…

So, the statement the asset servers went down and all SL content was lost was totally bogus. I’m not sure why anyone would make that statement. There are those always wanting to harm the Lab. Others think it fun to scare people. Others seem to believe whatever pops into their head.

I understand some new people will believe anything about SL and the Lab. But, I have the idea that with all the fake news, propaganda, and spin people would be more skeptical of what they hear. Silly me.
