Servers

The main channels did get a roll out. It was the package running on the RC channels for the last 2 weeks (38 & 39 or 39 & 40 depending on how you count weeks for rollouts). This was the package with teaks to the Experience Tools project. It also included some bug fixes.

nPose Sit Pose/Animation Tool – Tutorial

nPose is an open source tool for placing and controlling animations in furniture, or other prims which avatars can sit on. The tool has been around since at least 2010. (reference) I need such a tool for a sofa I am making. In my search I found nPose and thought it might be the answer. This tutorial is the outcome of my research. I am writing it in the early stages of my use of nPose, so expect this tutorial to get updates as I learn more. But, it should get you started.

The older nPose v0.028, also labeled as version 1.27, can be found here: User:Nandana Singh/nPose. nPose has had considerable work done on it since then. So, I do not recommend using this version, but it works.

A newer version is discussed here: User:Rev Eponym/nPose. The page does not include a download link. You can get the latest version of nPose at Builder’s Brewery. This SURL should pop you right in front of the vendor for nPose (free), at least as of October 2014.

The in world SL Group for nPose is named: nPose. There seem to be more people online in the SL morning than afternoon. I had better luck getting answers in the morning than afternoon. But, I haven’t been in the group long, so that may not be accurate.

Several people have been involved in advancing nPose. The latest work I found was done in June 2014. So, this is a script I consider under active development.

Blogs

There aren’t that many fashion blogs for guys. This one popped up in Plurk: Pixel Phashion 4 Men. Which it appears from time to time is definitely NSFW. I suppose that is one way to keep guys reading… For guys that want fashion news it is probably a good choice.

Changes

The Lindens have a new post in the SL Forum titled: An Update on Several Improvements to Second Life™ (9/30 9:36AM SLT).

The first thing they mention is their changing the viewer from using a list of graphics cards to determine what settings to use to using a benchmark process to test the installed video card. Based on the tests they estimate what the card is capable of doing.

The viewer that has this change is a Project Viewer and can be found here: Second Life RC Viewers. I would call this more of a beta version than an RC version. Whatever it is, the Lindens could use some help testing it, especially if you have one of the newest video cards out.

The Euclideon People are Back

About three years ago we started to hear of a company that said they could do amazing things with 3D imaging and rendering, unlimited detail with high frame rates. Well, we have yet to see anything but videos. And now we have another video.

May be we will see something other than a video in 2015.

I also wonder if High Fidelity’s use of voxels is along the same line and if some of this tech might make it into SL2.

Viewers

The main viewer is: 3.7.16.294015, which is the maintenance release I covered last week in Second Life News 2014-38 #2.

RC Viewers

There is still only one RC viewer: Login Viewer version 3.7.16.294345, I covered it earlier this week in Second Life News 2014-39.

Oz Linden tells there are other viewers in the pipeline that will appear “very, very, very soon”.

One he mentioned in the meeting is: a Pipelining Viewer, which is going from QA to RC Monday or Tuesday – This is said to be a way faster viewer. It is compatible with CDN and the two changes are synergistic. Monty Linden described the two working to gather as a “friggin’ scary good” change.
