That little baby girl grew up into the cutest DOLL… that is sort of what has happened with Second Life™ Jelly Babies. Earlier I wrote about the name Jelly Babies being trademarked. So, the Lab is not going to use that term for muted avatars. And I certainly am not going to call muted avatars muted avatars… ugh. That give no one an intuitive sense of what is being talked about.
JellyDoll and Fully Rendered Avatar.
I follow Mesh Body Addicts, a blog by LilDaria resident, Daria for short, which is all about mesh bodies and clothes. Love it. Daria is using the term JellyDolls in place of the trademarked Jelly Babies, which I like. So, we may have a new name for them. Continue reading →
Things go in cycles. Have you noticed? Second Life™ tutorials certainly seem to come in waves. For instance Strawberry Singh has redone her Avatar Physics tutorial as a video. See: Second Life Avatar Physics Tutorial or jump directly to the video tutorial at YouTube. I suggest you read Strawberry’s article.
Strawberry’s is a nine minute video that covers the information you can find detailed in the Firestorm Viewer’s wiki: Firestorm Avatar Physics, with a bit more detail. Everything you really need to know is in the video. I think she did a pretty good job on the video.
She points out that your mesh body and mesh clothes have to be rigged for Avatar Physics, otherwise your boobies and other parts won’t bounce. The only way you can know if an item is correctly rigged is to try the demo. Merchants just don’t put this stuff in the promo material, at least not in-world. They are a bit better in the marketplace.
According to what Strawberry is told only the Belleza body has butt bounce. From firsthand experience she says Slink and Maitreya bodies do not, just breast and belly bounce.
This is a big deal. I’ll get into what it means and what some of the possibilities are.
For years Second Life™ users have been asking for more bones. That would let users make avatars with tails that are easily animated. Or with more than 4 arm-leg appendages. We will be able to have a centaur with 4 legs, two arms, and a tail, something that is way complicated now and pretty lame. Or a spider with 8 legs. Continue reading →
Ever wish you could incorporate a tail, wings, or second set of arms into your avatar? How about having animations for facial expressions and finger movements? Yes, we know that there are some incredibly creative workarounds that give you some of these, but they can’t leverage skeletal animation, so they have been very complex, often fragile, and very expensive in performance and resources both in your Viewer and the Simulator.
Did you know Linden Lab has new avatars for the noobies? I had not realized it. But, Cerise @ SLUniverse posted about the new avatars and I noticed that post. Want to see some of the new avatars and mesh clothes?
Linden Lab’s New Starter Avatars – Classic is now the default.
This image shows the first page one lands on after clicking JOIN. By default they now have ‘Classic’ avatars selected. It is still possible to select Vampires and People. Those are mesh body avatars. But, the Classic Avatars look to be all new. The older avatars are still in the Library. I just don’t see them on sign-up process. Continue reading →
