The Math of Energy

If you follow my writing you know I like numbers and arguments based in facts with numbers I can look at, consider, and extrapolate from.  Peter Ferrara has such an article out about the math behind green energy.  Some of the numbers are amazing and his points are well made.

If you are a closed mind on green energy you’re not going to like the facts Mr. Ferrara presents. Skip the read. But, if you are concerned about the impoverished people of the world, this is an important read. If you are a true conservationist without a green radical agenda, this is the information you’ll want to know.

#SL News Update Week 24

For the last few weeks several of the Lindens that are good news sources have had little to say. They are working on various fixes in infrastructure, Experience Tools, Pathfinding, and other stuff. While some of the things are interesting most is rather tedious and boring. The result has been my consolidating news for various subjects into a single article.

Kingdom of Sand by: Nils Apfelbaum – Flickr

This week and to some extent last week I have been breaking news back into separate articles. I’m doing the same this week. The left over interesting stuff is in this article.

SVC-4444

SVC-4444Objects become fully permissive when rezzed under certain conditions. Baker Linden and Andrew have been looking at this item and working on fixes. It is a complex permissions issue that touches several inventory and transaction services. The work seems to have spun off into fixing other parts of the SL system so item 4444 can be fixed. Seems this is going to take some time.

Andrew Linden even said they gave up on 4444 until they get the associated problems fixed.

#SL Scripting Update Week 24

There was discussion about using an external editor for scripting. Some people are unaware there is a Debug Setting that allows one to select which editor they want to use. In Debug Settings it is:

ExternalEditor – Path to a program used to edit LSL scripts and XUI files, e.g.: /usr/bin/gedit –new-window “%s”

The feature is set in Preferences in some Third Party Viewers (TPV).

Editors

I think the more popular editor is LSLEditor. It changed from a purchased editor to an open source project some time ago. You can find the down loads in Source Forge as the LSL Editor Community Edition now. It is version 2.46.0.

Pathfinding Update Week 24

We are getting close to seeing a version of Pathfinding move to a release channel. Lorca Linden says the plan is to have Pathfinding in a release channel by mid July.

Pathfinding User Group

People are starting to try a back door approach to get an arrival date on the main grid. Their question is: How long does it take to go from RC to main channel? The Linden answer is: “Depends.” I’ve seen releases go from their first arrival in RC to the main channel a week later. I’ve also seen the Multi-Threaded Region Crossing code arrive in RC in February and just make it to the main channel this week. So, ‘depends’ is the only realistic answer.

9-11 Memorial Removed as Offensive

Hamlet ran the article: 9/11 Memorial Deemed “Offensive”, Rejected from SL9B.

The world is getting far too Politically Correct. People will be offended by many things. In a free world we are free to offend people. It may not be the smart thing to do, but we are free to do it.

There is no guaranteed right to live one’s life without ever being offended.

The selection of art one wants to allow in their gallery or in this case SL9B is up to those organizing it. We can’t take their freedom away either.

Reacting to small numbers of complaints disrespects the majority.

Blender Testing Needed

Gaia Clary has been and is working with the Blender Development team. In Blender 2.64, the likely next release, we will see a revised Collada Export. Gaia is looking for people to help test the revisions while the code is in beta.

Coming Blender 2.64 Release w/New Collada Export

Blender Installs

Using Archive installs will allow you to have multiple independent installs of Blender. See Blender Archive Install for more information on doing a Blender Archive Install.

Downloading Beta Versions

You will find the various beta versions of Blender on a site named GraphicAll.org. Look for a release build designated r47979 or newer.

Discussion

Gaia posted the information in the SL Forum in: Blender Collada news. If you want to provide feedback or ask questions this thread would be a good place. If you find a bug, report it in the Blender.org patch tracker.

Gaia posted a longer and more informative post on Mahinimatrix.org. It gives some of the background on Blender Collada and plans for the future.
