#SL Fixes Purchase Delivery

A JIRA was filed, WEB-4260 – SLM deliveries consistently delayed in early morning hours. It raised some heat. Darrius wrote in his blog about it: Slow Spiral Into Demise. Forum conversation picked up and some bloggers picked up on the problem. I wrote about it in: #SL Market Place Woes. It seems the commotion got … Read more

#SL Response

I hear lots of people bitch about something they know next to nothing about. Unfortunately they are not limited to Second Life. Oskar recently gave a good reply to one such… (put your own adjective and noun or pronoun here). I think it is worth reading Oskar’s response to understand what it takes to get server fixes rolled out. There is also some interesting information on timelines and drop dead dates for fixes rolling out.

So you have fixed the ghosting issue. Great.

But you’re not deploying the fix for another 30+ hours. Not Great.

If you do have an explanation for continuing to run server code which you know is broken, I would like to hear it.

The best answer would be that you are running the fix through QA processes. That still doesn’t explain why, when some regions are inaccessible because of the number of ghosted AVs, you have not reverted them to an earlier, known-safe, version of the code.

#SL Server/Scripting News Wk5

The code from the Magnum release channel has rolled to the main grid. That means, according to Simon Linden, we now have the new function llSetRegionPos() available across the whole grid. The existing function llGetEnv() gets the new return value frame_number. Plus a bunch of bug fixes. You can see them listed in previous Server News articles.

Server/Scripting Meeting

Blue Steel

This release channel gets the performance enhanced server maintenance package. The big news is in the speed up of LIST handling functions.

This is the functions’ second time in a release channel, if I remember correctly.

J’s Flip-Flap Bare Feet

I seldom write about fashion… I suppose flip flops can be fashionable. But, I really like these bare feet and flip-flaps. The creator is not a native English speaker so I don’t know if the flaps part is intentional. I’ll guess it is.

J's Flip-Flap and Bare Feet

I’ve been writing this blog for a couple of years and I don’t even have a fashion category. I suppose that is sad for someone that looks at several fashion blogs during any week. Daily Look SL is a favorite of mine. I had to take it out of my reader. I was going broke buying stuff I liked.

UnityCore RP/Combat Meter Coming to #SL

Those of us that play in the various role play and combat games within Second Life know about Combat/Role Play Meters. There are some popular ones like; Spellfire, GM, Warps, CCS, RCS, FRCS, and on and on. Some are free and some are purchased ranging from L$75 to several thousand. Now a new meter is coming out, UnityCore Engine. It looks like NoR will be changing over. From what I see it is only a matter of when.

UnityCore RP/Combat Meter for Second Life

NoR is a dark role play game in Second Life, Nation of Remembrance.

The UnityCore meter is in alpha testing now. You can try it out in NoR. They have the meter operational in two regions; Remembrance and Evil. While the test is in operation the role play is sort of suspended in those two regions, it’s not part of your IC RP story and the testing is considered OOC. That allows players to easily talk about the meter.
