Second Life Most Popular Regions

One of my readers asked about where I got the list of top 50 regions in Second Life™. Fortunately they included a link to what they were asking about, because I was like, OMG! I did that? Well, as the picture shows I got the list from Hamlet over at New World Notes. I didn’t do it.

Here is Hamlet’s latest list: Top 50 Popular Second Life Sims. This is from August 2012. Hamlet gets it from Metaverse Business.

I was wondering if the list is available online. It does not seem to be. I suspect it is part of a commercial subscription service they may offer.

Second Life News 2013-29 #2

Dagger Faulkwing alerted me to a change in the RC roll outs.  Maestro posted a change on the 16th about 3:30 PM PDT. It seems they will place the SSA package on the Magnum channel as originally planned rather than leave it on the Le Tigre channel.

It was originally planned to move the SSA package to the larger Magnum channel (2,454 – Le Tigre: 1,431). Using a larger channel would give the Lindens more information on how the SSA servers are handling appearance baking loads. In this case about twice as many regions.

Second Life News 2013-29

We are getting a new rollout today. This is the package that ran on the Magnum channel last week. This is a package with fixes for Pathfinding. The continuous re-bake of the Navmesh is one of the problems solved.

If you had not turned off the terrain re-bake notification it could get annoying. So, this will be a welcome fix. It only affected regions that had multiple parcels with boundaries under water. So, not a common problem.

Le Tigre is going to continue to run the Server Side Appearance (SSA) package. I was expecting this to move to the larger Magnum channel. But, that is not the plan now.

Second Life Market Place Update 2013-29

The Second Life™Market Place (MP) has been a source of pain and frustration for many. For myself I rate it as an annoyance to my Second Life experience. I continually hope they will get it fixed and working well. But, keeping track of what is going on with the MP is enough of a challenge I tend to ignore it and follow Darrius Gothly’s coverage over at dgp4sl.com.

Today I see he has a new article out: Wanton and Willful Fraud by Linden Lab. Darrius tends to rant. But, his rants are well explained and backed up by his experience.

He does say that the new Direct Delivery (DD) service of the MP is a good thing and generally works better than the Magic Boxes ever did.
