Second Life and Virtual Worlds
At 1AM PT June 16, 2016 the Lab will be working on a cluster of utility servers. This means the SL system will be unstable during that time. Users served by the servers being worked on will likely be disconnected and those attempting to login will not be able to. Others may have chat, and group chat issues.

We have the package from the RC channels being promoted to the main channel Tuesday, 6/14. This package labeled as having minor improvements…

No new package comes out Wednesday. So, all channels, main and RC’s, will be running the same package.
Last week the Black Dragon Viewer got some updates. One of the features appearing in viewers is RESET SKELETON. Black Dragon has added that feature. Also, the max draw distance is now 1024m. I suspect you’re going to need a high end computer to use that setting. I have problems using anything over 256m.
Lots of fixes in the latest release. Plus some default setting values change.
Niran wants to get more feedback on this viewer. I’m clueless as to how many people use the viewer. But, obviously they aren’t providing much feedback. No feedback, not much fixing or changing.
Use notecards via IM to report problems or feature requests. Niran asks for feedback in group chat but, doesn’t say when. I doubt Niran is on 24×7… So, you sort of take your chances. Note cards are sure to get to Niran.
In Second Life™ polluting the environment is not an issue we have to deal with. We can hit the Return All button and any pollution problem is solved. iRL it is a problem.
In our society of sound bites and 145 word tweets propagandists have found heaven. Groups with socially appealing names have been taken over by socialists and justice types chasing personal wealth for power. Organizations once doing noble work have turned into organizations that make the mafia run protection scams of the past look retarded.
I use outfits… reading in the forum I find there is a mix of people using and not using and sort of using outfits. With the Visual Outfit Browser feature being added to the viewer, I wonder if it will change how people will use outfits? I’ll get into LAG and USE.
After a bit over 8 years playing the Second Life™ inventory game (See: Is Second Life a Game?), I’ve tried a bunch of different inventory tactics. I am finding how I use inventory and outfits evolves with time. Am I winning? Maybe. I see that ‘evolving’ seems to be true for others too. So, how does one make the best use of inventory and outfits? Is there a lag factor from inventory?
The discussion over on the Myst and Obduction forums is about whether most of the people will need a new computer or not. The minimum hardware requirements are pretty high. See: Cyan Worlds’ Obduction July Release.
There is enough of a commotion about hardware the Cyan Worlds peeps have posted: Obduction VS. Hardware. Mike Dogherra explains his experience with the game. He doesn’t address the Oculus Rift aspect, which I think is why we see such high specs.
While I could be wrong, I think much of this is about Cyan covering their butts and controlling expectations. They do not want to get ripped on for giving people simulator sickness.
