The main channel got a roll. And there is a Deploys post. So, version #18.05.07.515224 is now on the main channel. This is the one that adds the new LSL functions for the coming name change.
Ahiru (fin)
Blue Steel, Le Tigre, and Magnum are all to be determined. If nothing rolls out, all main grid regions will be running the same version. Or we might see something roll to the RC channels.
The main channel updated to version #18.04.30.515008, this is the version that hopefully improves… not fixes, region crossings. Specifically, “Updates to simulator communication protocols aimed at improving region crossings and teleports.”
Blue Steel, Le Tigre, and Magnum all get the #18.05.07.515224 version. This is the version preparing for the name change feature by adding scripting functions to LSL.
Seems some regions are getting two restarts today. I suspect that is somewhat common.
It’s your move, pawn.
Simon Linden tells us, “…the servers are now doing a better job tracking all the attachments and objects you may be sitting on [when crossing a region]. The goal is to know when the region thinks that’s all done, and the viewer acknowledges it. If that doesn’t happen, it can do better fixing it.
From the Server and Scripting UG we hear about more region crossing work. Simon Linden is doing some work on crossings. BUG-214653 – After half-unsit at failed region crossing on vehicle due to network lag, “Unsit” button will not work.
Crossing regions at speed… fast cars, planes, boats, and motorcycles, have a big problem. I was recently testing an Apolon helicopter. Great fun. But, region crossings are an annoyance.
Le Tigre and Magnum update to #18.03.14.513292. Internal fixes, logging to help diagnose an issue with in-world HTTP servers returning HTTP 503 (BUG-214702), adds a new capability to request IMs that were delivered to the requesting agent while the agent was offline, and adds a new capability to request the most up to date list of abuse report categories.
These ‘adds’ will require a viewer that can use them. Which I assume is somewhere in the QA pipeline.
The last few days we have had some people complaining about login issues. I’m one of them. But, the problem is so erratic and apparently random I can’t put any useful information in a JIRA.
This morning there was some issue with logins. Only 17,000+ were on when I logged in at 10:45 Am SLT. On my trackers next update, 19,000+ were on. That 17k is an extraordinarily small number. The low for the day is about 7,000… but it may have been zero. My tracker only grabs data every 10 minutes. A lot can happen in the computer world and RL in 10 minutes.
Lauressa – Close-up
I currently show 3,000 to 2,000 people logging in every 10 minutes. This is indicative of some grid wide problem.
Status only says they are investigating intermittent login issues.
Update 11:00 AM SLT – Seems the problem is a DDOS attack. See Unscheduled DDoS. This is not a Linden Lab specific attack. Early indications, often wrong, suggest it is possibly an attack on America. I would not be surprised to trace it back to North Korea. They will likely react to the sanctions just placed on the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. So, appease them now and face a nuclear attack later or deal with them now?
Did you know the average duration of a mass shooting is three minutes? What is the response time of the police in your neighborhood, to your sports arena, movie theater, or school?
Monday Caleb Linden posted the Deploys notice. The main channel is getting a restart. But will continue to run the same server version, #18.01.17.511913. The restarts are said to have started rolling across the grid at 3AM PT.
Blue Steel may get a new package Wednesday. The Deploys notice says they have not yet decided.
Heart Shaped
Le Tigre and Magnum will continue to run #18.01.17.511913, the package they ran last week. I doubt they will get a restart…
Viewers
The main viewer is now 5.1.1.512121. This is the upgrade with fixes to the voice features. The previous version 5.1.0.511732 released in week #2.
Christmas is sort of over. We are on to the post-Christmas battery buying days and OMG, why-did-they-think-I-would-wear-this returns…
Second Life is in a ‘No Change’ window. Many Lindens are off work this week. So, there is little news. There is however a Friday post from the Lindens in Featured News: Unboxing 2017 and Looking towards 2018 in Second Life! Worth a read.
without thinking of anything
Other than saying they will make Second Life™ better in 2018, they don’t say much about what is coming. If you have been reading here you know of some things.
I used to do reviews of the events of of the year. It is a bunch of work. So, Inara is doing her year-in-review: 2017 IN REVIEW – PART 1. I’ll leave that work to her. I am thinking of doing a review in video… If it proves fun, you’ll see it. If it turns into work, I’ll probably abandon the project.
