Second Life Servers Week 39

Frustrating but, I don’t know what the roll back last week was about. That we have a roll out to the main channel this week is surprising. But, we do.

The main channel is to get a new package. This has:

  • BUG-9683 “Feature Request: llGetAttachedList() – returns a list of root keys of all visible attachments worn by an agent.”
  • BUG-9891 “[Feature Request] – llGetObjectDetails() constant OBJECT_CLICK_ACTION”

Neither of these functions are appearing in the wiki yet.

RC Channels

Blue Steel, La Tigre, and Magnum are to get the same new package. This will apparently be the package that retries the internal fixes to improve inventory performance.

Second Life: Alert!

Maintenance Soon

Friday,18 Sep 2015 02:07:13 GMT

LL is rolling back the entire GRID tonight at midnight SLT.

[Unscheduled Rolling Maintenance September 2015]

We will be performing unscheduled rolling maintenance for all regions on our Second Life sever channels; Magnum, BlueSteel and LeTigre RC server channels beginning at approximately midnight PDT. Please refrain from rezzing no-copy objects and making in world L$ transactions, and remember to save all builds. Click here for more info:

The wording and punctuation made the message unclear. I changed “…sever channel, Magnum,…” to read as “…sever channels; Magnum,…” Whoever types these messages may have English as their second language.

Second Life Server Update Week 37

No roll to the main channel this week. I didn’t expect any rolls as it is a short week with Monday being an American holiday.

the very bored

the very bored

The RC channels did get a new package. Surprising.  This is another boring Internal Simulator Fixes package.

Calab Linden seems to have permanently taken over making the Deploy announcements. He is making the forum and wiki posts. They seem to be turning into boiler plate announcements. He might as well abbreviate the reporting in the forum to Yes or No.

We can assume Internal means there is no user apparent change to the server. The change will have something to do with issues that affect operation in ways only important to Lindens. So, may be a variable name changes to better describe its function, a change makes package roll out more efficient, communication between a backend service improved… all things that say little to the user. But, these are still of interest to the geek crowd.

The lack of new features or improved existing features suggests most of the work is happening on larger projects or the viewer. We know there were changes to the inventory processes and Experience Tools going on. We haven’t heard that they have ended. Also, a VIVOX update was expected. We just aren’t getting information about those things.

Second Life Server Week 36

We got a roll to the main channel this week. This is the package with Simulator Fixes and a fix for BUG-9504. There is nothing else available about those improvements.

WB BarDeco in Kekeland or Kekeland in BarDeco !! Awesome

The RC Channels will get one update on Blue Steel. The other channels, La Tigre, and Magnum, will continue running the package that rolled to the main channel. So, all regions except Blue Steel will be on the same package.  Continue reading

Second Life Servers Week 35

There was no roll to the Second Life™ servers’ main channel. The update running on Blue Steel last week had to be rolled back. So, it was not available for promotion.

So lonely . . . Neva River V

So lonely . . . Neva River V

This week the RC channels are all three getting the same new package. This one has some Simulator Fixes and a fix for BUG-9504 “Clicking on any object that affects the navmesh while in mouselook dirties the navmesh”. Remember, the Navmesh is a thing in Pathfinding.

Zombie Eye in Second Life

It isn’t contagious. This problem passed quickly, I think. I didn’t run into it, so it is hard for me to know. But, it revealed another part of how the Second Life™ system works.

Knowledge is not everything...

Knowledge is not everything…

Backend Serve updates – there are a number of backend services needed to support Second Life. When the Lab is changing/updating them they generally provide no public notice, unless users need to change behavior, like refrain from transactions or rezzing no-copy items (which hopefully is changing).  Continue reading

Server Update Week 34

Calab Linden has taken over posting information about Second Life™ server updates. We get a lot less information than we did with Simon Linden. Whether that is the difference in people or just that less work is being done on server updates, I don’t know.
