Black Dragon Poser Get an Update

Black Dragon Poser – NiranV is changing the Poser feature. Again… still… making this version 3.1.8. I think by anyone’s standard it is getting better. In NiranV’s latest post mention is made of working with Nat Linden to make feature changes as they import the tool into the Linden viewer.

Black Dragon 3.1.8 Poser – Showing bone displacement capability

There are permission and usability issues. The Lab has to minimize how handy the feature will be for stealing poses and animations. Plus, noob users need to have a chance to understand how to use it. While it may seem obvious to you, just think back on some of the things you have helped the new to understand.

If you haven’t noticed, NiranV has a Discord Channel.

On Windows 10, you’ll get a warning message when you install the viewer. That is Microsoft being overly cautious with any software they don’t know.

Did you miss that SL15B Gift? Aaaaw!

SL15B – Some people are totally surprised to find they cannot now find the Week 1 & 2 gifts. I thought the Lab was clear when they said each gift would only be available for ONE WEEK.

These are way easy hunts, the clues easily understood, and the gifts are in a gaudy box in plain sight. Finding them takes only a couple of minutes.

How great the gifts are is debatable. But, they are fun.

The Latest Second Life Drama… Coming After You.

If you have been in SL for a time you know a significant number of users are big on drama. Whole roleplay communities exist for the drama in storytelling. If you know a game master, you have no doubt heard some of their amazing stories of stupidity.

Unfortunately, drama often spills over into other parts of the SL world and results in RL legal actions that affect those of us that were minding our own business.

Feel good

Feel good – GA.EG

In January I wrote about the OpenCollar Drama in OpenCollar No Longer OpenCollar? The Nirea and Athaliah side of that dama got control of the OpenCollar group. Moderators and some others there claim they are the only real OpenCollar. Collar updates are now confusing.

Now. it seems we are bumping into another such situation, but with mesh heads. Catwa has filed a DMCA Take Down Notice against GA.EG and Akeruka. I’m not clear on whether they are at DMCA with Akeruka. But, Akeruka is in conflict with Catwa. I hear Stray Dog is also dealing with a DMCA from Catwa. Note 7/9: Gac Akina the owner of Stray Dog says he isn’t dealing with a DMCA. As best I can tell the comment/email address is Gac’s. Continue reading

There is a Firestorm Release Coming…

At some point in time there will be a new release of the Firestorm Viewer. It is over due by about 3 months. The team’s stated goal is a release every 3rd month. In practice it is working out to about one every 6 months.

There are some significant changes coming to viewers. You likely know about EEP, which will likely eventually replace the enhanced Windlight features in Firestorm. The team will likely figure out to have both EEP and Enhanced FS Windlight working together. Then in a later release remove the FS Windlight. The point being to allow those relying on FS Windlight to change over to EEP. But… I’m guessing.

Animesh is coming. The server side of that is figured out and looks to release in July. Its on the main grid in the RC channels. So, we’ll likely see it go to the main channels in week #27. BUT… the viewer side is a bit behind the server and likely to only appear as an RC viewer, project viewer now, toward the end of July.

For the Firestorm team this means they don’t have a final version of the viewer code to be working with. They are still likely having to deal with changing Animesh code that changes how Animesh renders. Continue reading

Second Life Content Creation UG 2018 w26

There is some interesting news out this week. The Lindens are getting more definite about some release dates.

This is the last meeting for a couple of weeks. Next meeting is July 19. The 4th of July is a US holiday and the next week is the company wide meeting, so no meeting those weeks.

Some of the discussion this week gets a bit heated.

Index

I had some problems with sound. I think I caught most of the problems in post. The audio track has been dynamically compressed to lift the whispers and tone down the shouts.

Some sections have been time compressed, meaning the video can be running 2 to 5 times faster than RL. That can make it hard to read chat. Just stop the video to read. I suggest you not worry too much about chat. The Lindens are pretty good about repeating a question in voice before answering it. Continue reading

Second Life News 2018 w26

We’ve reached the midpoint of the year… and I forgot to hit the publish button… until now.

The main channel is getting an update to #18.06.14.516450. This update has Internal Fixes and Logging Improvements… so likely more data collection things.

Long Term Memory

Long Term Memory

Blue Steel, Le Tigre, and Magnum will get an update to #18.06.22.516968. This update is preparation for the release of Animesh. Specifically said to be;

Some land owners are noticing their regions restarting twice when the updates roll out. See BUG-134297Issue with region restarting then restarting again with version change.

Seems one restarts lands the region on a new host and a second restart updates the simulator version it is running. Continue reading
