Blue Steel

This Release Channels got the single update rolled out this week. It is a maintenance package with LSL fixes. Details are here: Second Life News 2013-32.

Le Tigre & Magnum

These two channels remain the same as last week.

Next Week

For now the Lindens are planning to roll the Blue Steel Package to the main channel next week. They are planning to roll the SSA package (Le Tigre & Magnum) to the main channel the week after (34).

If you are wondering why SSA (Server Side Appearance) is not rolling forward, it has to do with what some call the ‘ovens.’ The ovens are the backend servers that do the baking for SSA. Those servers are getting an update next week (33). Simon Linden says this will happen behind the scenes and without down time.

The Singh Interview

Ciaran Laval did an interview with Strawberry Singh. It is a three part article, at least as of today there are three parts. If Ciaran survived the taking of the ring… I suppose there could be more. I wanted to mention this interview because I think it is about the most creatively written interview I’ve … Read more

Linden’s Second Life Affiliates

Ciaran Laval has an article up about Linden Lab’s affiliate program. So what is that and how does one find out more? Ciaran tells in his article: Linden Lab Launch New Second Life Affiliate Program [sic]. I get the impression Ciaran thinks this is a new program. It sort of is and isn’t.

The official Linden page that explains the program is here: Second Life Affiliate Program.

They describe the program as: “The Second Life Affiliate Program is an easy and simple way to be rewarded by associating your Web site with ours. When a visitor clicks a Second Life link on your Web site and registers as a new Second Life Resident, you earn a flat commission for each new valid registration that you refer to Second Life made within 45 days of click through.”

Oculus Rift Surprise

I think most people that know about the Oculus Rift know that just a few months ago this was a small startup company trying to get crowd source funding. Now I see an article where one of the titans of the game world has come on board as the company’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO).

The video here is an older video. 1 hour. It is NOT related to the article about John as Oculus’s CTO. But, it has a load of information about the people involved with Oculus Rift and their accomplishments.

The titan is: John Carmack. Type “John Carmack” into Google and you’ll get about 1.9 million hits. That’s about two-hundred times more than me. John is considered a gaming pioneer, visionary, and somewhat a legend among gamers and game designers. He was the lead programmer on Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Quake, and others.
