Myst Uru: New Video

Myst Online: Uru Live was my first MMORPG. I mention it now and then. Anyway a character named Slightlybartfast on YouTube has made a video giving his version of the game’s history, which is nothing like what I remember. What can I say, he’s in the UK…

You won’t see any of the game until about the 6 minute mark. Then you’ll only see a few second of it. So, this is an 11 minute video mostly with Slightlybartfast talking about his understanding of the history of Uru and the author’s, Cyan Worlds, Inc., marketing mistakes. He touches on some of the other games in the Myst series.

The game is currently free to play at Myst Online. There is a donation thing that supports the cost of the server and pays for someone to do occasional maintenance and repairs to the server and software.

The gaming system is about 13 years old. It was initially written about the time Second Life (SL) was started. SL has been maintained and updated. Uru hasn’t been. There have been fixes and some proprietary parts of the code replaced with open source code. But, it has an old look to it. In its day it was awesome. It is still an enchanting world to play in.

Second Life: Content Creation 2017 w09

This week I actually got everything working and captured the meeting on video. Next week there is no CCUG meeting.

I sped up the video to cut the run time from an hour and a half to about an hour. About the only noticeable change is people’s voice pitch goes up.

Synopsis

The additional assets via HTTP viewer is in the pipeline. The server changes are running on ADITI (preview grid) now. As well as the new server OS versions. We can expect both of these to show up ‘soon’.

Slink: The Bento Hands are Here

And wow… it is an update… no additional cost… WOW!

To get yours visit the slink main store and find a REDELEVERY terminal. Have the system redeliver the hands you previously purchased. Take them home and figure them out… J

If you purchased the multi-pack hands you get all the new Bento stuff. If you purchased a smaller pack or a single hand pose… you get less stuff. See the Slink Dynamic Hands (aka Project Bento comes to Slink) article in the Slink web site for more precise details. Or just get your update and open it.

Flickr Background & Profile Image Sizes

Controlling the image you have for a background in Flickr is a bit trick. I found it frustrating the last time I changed my background. I tried to sort it out again, as I wanted a new background. I did find a sizing that works.

Flickr Background Image Size

The complication in sizing this image is from Flickr needing to resize the image on the fly to fit various screens. Below a certain size, they stop displaying the image. My Android Samsung S5 is an example (I don’t use the Flickr app) of where it isn’t displayed. However, they do display the image on my iPad.

Flickr on iPad Screen

Whether profile or landscape, the iPad uses a 1024 x 768 display of the web page. Flickr does not resize (respond to the change) as you change from profile to landscape. At least my old iPad doesn’t.

Discovering Flickr and Following Groups

I suspect most Second Life people know about Flickr. Lots of SL peeps use Flickr. However, I suspect few know how to find the awesome art that is appearing every day. I know it has taken me some time to realize how to find the awesome art.

There are people that mention artists and give you their names, Hamlet at New World Notes often features an artist. I do from time to time. Other bloggers do too. But, waiting on us to reveal those you think are awesome could be tedious. So, how do you find awesome Flickr artists to follow?
