I have a bit of time to write today. RL is still busy with work and holiday related stuff. I can confirm that Adobe’s latest release of Dreamweaver is way buggy when one tries to use their new fluid ‘LIVE’ design features. It appears Adobe is moving away from Dreamweaver and toward their new Adobe Edge.
SL Wiki
I’m not sure how many of my readers use the SL Wiki. I suspect even fewer add to its content. Those of us that do contribute to the wiki content have been blocked for some time. The SL Wiki is no longer user editable. Few Lindens can edit it.
Months ago some socially dysfunctional people started vandalizing the wiki. The Lindens locked it down to stop the vandalism.
The main channel will get a rollout Tuesday. This is a maintenance package that includes:
Fixes BUG-7595 Allowed & Blocked experiences persist with parcel owner change after purchase or abandoning.
Fixes BUG-7036 Experience based scripts in attached child prims reference their operation by region position instead of root position like non-experience based scripts.
BUG-7048 llGetExperienceDetails() returns 4 for state and “operation not permitted” for state message while over mainland parcels that have the experience allowed.
BUG-6757 Different error code returned for an Experience that is not permitted to run on a parcel / region OR a user clicked No on the permission request dialog
Additional internal Experience Key fixes
To find experiences with all unicode names you have to leave the search field blank and page through all results
We knew it was coming. Now it is out, Firestorm 4.6.9-42696. The first release out hit a snag. These issues were a problem for a number of people:
FIRE-15122 Voice connection is lost after Teleport on OpenSim Grids
FIRE-15110 rlva @getattach does not work
FIRE-15101 Bottom toolbar buttons show in mouselook
FIRE-15085 Object view not working in build 4.6.9.42969
FIRE-14471 Editing quick prefs crash
If you go to get a new Firestorm version, you’ll find that only version 4.6.9-42974 is available for download. If you have version 42696 and are NOT having problems then there is no reason to get the slightly newer release.
December 12, Friday, there will be a meeting for discussion of the new Marketplace features. It seems few merchants know much about the coming change. The announcement is here: In-World Feedback Session.
I guess this tells us how few residents actually keep up with SL news, either via forums or blogs. Of course that reflects a similar RL fact that only about 20+ million of 300+ million people in the U.S. watch TV news (national news).
Last Friday the at the Third Party Viewer Developers UG meeting we got some news.
The big news is that Firestorm is to release a new version of their viewer 12/10. Jessica said about 6PM. I am guessing that is SL Time (PST).
Jessica has posted an announcement explaining what is coming in this release and what is NOT going to be in it. A lot of things seen in other third party viewers are not going to make it into this release. There are:
Group Ban – may be included
SL Share
AISv3
HTTP
These are big improvements in the SL experience. But, they came with 6 bugs that the Firestorm team considers deal breakers. See the blog post for the list: Be Careful What You Wish For.
It seems Jessica is expecting some blow back from users. I expect she’ll get it. But, to rip on someone that is providing you what is arguably the best viewer available for Second Life and certainly the most popular, show serious ingratitude and a major personality defect.
I am disappointed that these important features are being left out of this release. But, I wrote earlier of the releases notes and ALL the STUFF being included in this release (See: Second Life News 2014-50 – scroll down toward the end of the article). There is no shortage of new stuff and fixed problems. Be grateful. I’ll have to deal with my disappointment and try not to rip too harshly on those that lack enough class to avoid venting their disappoint on others.
It looks like the Samsung Head Mounted Display (HMD) know as Gear VR is out or almout out for retail sales. The Road to VR has an article comparing the Gear and Oculus. The short story is it appears Oculus is doing software and software tech while Samsung is doing hardware. However that works, it is a device making it to market with the Samsung brand name.
