VR Controllers are still a problem for VR users. An interesting entry in the field is Neurable’s in partnership with eStudioFeature’s mind-controller… a think and it happens controller.
Yes. There is. Unfortunately, it is in the Sansar Forum, which is pretty lame and has no RSS feed which Feedly can find. There are some follow buttons on the Sansar Forum site now. You must be logged in for them to appear (work?). So, I suppose it is an email thing. I’m finding out.
Sansar Meet Up Aug 4, 2017
The meetings are held on various days. The most recent meetings were Friday (11th) and Monday (14th) with Friday’s meeting at Drax’s place 114 Harvest (URL) at 9:30 AM PT and 4:00 PM PT and Monday’s meeting at Strange Lights at 3:00 PM PT.
In Second Life, the use of meeting transcripts has been and is decreasing. The Content Creation UG meeting is in voice. Medhue and I video the meetings (no CC UG meeting this week or next) and post them to YouTube. Rex Cronon, a resident, used to create a transcript of the Server-Scripting UG meeting. The Server Beta group published transcripts of their meetings until mid-June then stopped.
Not much change in the viewer status this past week. The Lindens were having their planning summit (week #32). So, work hours were being expended on planning, not production.
The Alex Ivy viewer, the 64-bit viewer, hopefully, updates next week (#33). It has some fixes being QA’d this weekend. The viewer is crashy for some, not others. I guess I’m an other…
They have put stuff in the coming update hoping to catch the bug(s).
1001 Arabian Nights
Looks like Maintenance Viewer will be the one to promote. We’ve heard that for a couple of weeks.
Voice Viewer is suffering high crash rates. Lindens have yet to figure out why. So, it is iterating through changes.
The 360-Image Viewer is on hold due to vacations. And when the vacationer comes back he’ll have to fix some CEF stuff first. So, expect this to be on idle for a couple more weeks.
Sansar Forum… sort of. The big discussion there is how to stop people from making SL-Like-Name-Tags. It is surprising how many people are full on fascist-like in how they want to control others. How do we make everyone do it my way!?!
The forum is pretty badly formatted and awkward to read. The Lab is aware and plans to change it to something more ‘forum-like’. The change is not currently scheduled. (Reference) I mean… it isn’t like they have anything else to do…
Avatar Skeletons… As of July 6, 2017, there were no models or skeletons available. The Lab just isn’t there yet. (Reference) So, no avatars, no ‘rigged’ clothes. There are, however, Sansar Reference Avatar models.
The official instructions are here: Avatar attachments (accessories). This is what you want to read if you are just trying to figure out how to make an attachment. I had to experiment to see how this works in Blender.
The female avatar has 24,000+ faces in the body and 9,000+ in the head-neck for about 34,000 total. The SL Avatar has about 7,000+.
You’ve visited Sansar and gone Atlas Hopping with Drax. So, you know how to walk and get around. What about the building tools?
Start with Managing your Scenes and Experiences to understand how your ‘region’ will be made public and allow others in. In Second Life™ we change settings to keep people out. In Sansar, we change settings to let people in. I suppose that difference has profound philosophical design implications…
Sansar has a My Experiences App. At first, I thought this was something else to download. It isn’t. The app is built into the main viewer, which consists of an update app, a login app, and the viewer app that chain together to look like a single app.
There are also tutorials or an online manual here: Creating in Sansar. I’ll point out people are asking me how to build in Sansar. I am curious too. Google was not helping. The pages I list here are not coming up in Google, which explains a lot of the problem. Oddly they pop up first in Bing and Yahoo searches. For those tired of censored search content and user tracking, there is always DuckDuckGo.com, where Sansar searches also work.
