As I mentioned yesterday, it has been weeks since the podcast. Gianna mentions that in the opening post. Lots happening in her life; hurricanes, holidays, and work. Whatever, we have a new podcast titled ‘Duh’ and I got to listen to it this morning.

As usual I don’t quote or transcribe the podcast. I write my take of what I hear. So, be smart, listen to the podcast before you react to anything.
There isn’t much happening on this project. But, there is lots of talk. Oz Linden is talking with management about assigning staff to the project. That discussion should be happening this Friday. Next week we will learn whether he got the help he wants.
Jeans without Alpha Layer
In the mean time new people have been posting in the JIRA item STORM-1716 – Mesh Deformer for tailoring mesh clothing. This has become a rather large JIRA entry. So, users are getting hit with the problem the Lindens had, the thread is just too long to read. The result is important information is over looked by the people just joining the discussion. They are clueless and that annoys those that have followed the project for the last year. That results in lots of bickering and short tempers.
The thread is a good example of why the Lindens made the JIRA Change and closed down the BUG Reports and JIRA in general. Just try to get the latest information out of the 1716 thread. It is a pain and it doesn’t work. I read the thing because I want to distill the information out, know what is happening, and hopefully keep my readers informed.
It has been some weeks since the last podcast. There is a new one out. Hear it at: Metareality. I won’t get to listen to it until some time later this weekend. Friday night and I can hear my favorite Bar & Grill calling.

But, using the viewer will test its ability to work … Read more
We learned a bit more about Tuesday’s lag fest. It was a hardware issue in the Phoenix collocation facility. A network link and its redundant backup both failed. The Lindens got it fixed about 5PM. See my first announcement of the problem: Second Life Problems.
Rumor is Meeroos got loose in the server room and gnawed the cables.

Rollouts
Wednesday the Multi-Threaded Region-Crossing code rolled out to all three RC channels. The Lindens saw a sudden uptick in problems, which was mostly server crashes. Another problems was the loss of avatar attachments after several region crossings. In some cases after a relog the attachments were still missing.
The Second Life Viewer is getting lots of changes. Even more are to come in the next weeks as the Materials System that allows the use of normal and specular maps. The 3.4.5 version is currently in pre-beta stage, Development. You can download a copy by looking in the left column for: SL Dev Viewer DL.
