Blog Moved

THIS HAS BEEN A FRUSTRATING FEW DAYS. But finally (1/9) it looks like the blog and my other sites have successfully moved to the new server.

Loss

Articles from 12/16 to today have been lost (about 4 posts and a couple of comments). the 15th was my last backup… I probably have drafts of some of them in Word files on my computer. But as most are news and the news is old, I won’t bother to restore those.

Mandelblub 3D and Second Life

I’m busy with holidays and work, so not much blogging. But, work-wise I came across an interesting program I needed to for making some unique original textures: MandelBlub 3D, a free 3D fractal generator. It is mentioned in the Advanced Photoshop magazine too.

The art I first came across shown on Deviant Art looked like the type of art I needed for a work project. So, off I went to find the software and generate those textures. It occurred to me that some of these could be awesome for use in Second Life, especially since it appears the Lab is never going to change the TOS to something acceptable to CG Textures and similar suppliers of stock textures.

Getting the program is the easy part. It is pretty much a stand-alone program that does not need to be installed, just unzipped and run.

Second Life Experience Keys

In progress for over a year the Experience Tools are nearing a first release. The Lab has now made an announcement: Manage Experiences with a New Release Candidate Viewer.

The video is from 6 months ago. There are live ‘Experiences’ you can visit. (Experiences) The announcement moves thing into the Beta stage.

You need to be able to explain what you plan to do with an Experience Key to get  one.

There is also a Project Viewer that goes along with the Beta: Experience Viewer version 3.7.23.297364. Download

For more information from the user side see Inara’s article: Lab issues Experience Keys release candidate viewer

Second Life Wiki Lockdown 2014-52

I have a bit of time to write today. RL is still busy with work and holiday related stuff. I can confirm that Adobe’s latest release of Dreamweaver is way buggy when one tries to use their new fluid ‘LIVE’ design features. It appears Adobe is moving away from Dreamweaver and toward their new Adobe Edge.

SL Wiki

I’m not sure how many of my readers use the SL Wiki. I suspect even fewer add to its content. Those of us that do contribute to the wiki content have been blocked for some time. The SL Wiki is no longer user editable. Few Lindens can edit it.

Months ago some socially dysfunctional people started vandalizing the wiki. The Lindens locked it down to stop the vandalism.

Firestorm Viewer 4.6.9-42696 Released

Firestorm Logo
Firestorm Logo

We knew it was coming. Now it is out, Firestorm 4.6.9-42696. The first release out hit a snag. These issues were a problem for a number of people:

  • FIRE-15122 Voice connection is lost after Teleport on OpenSim Grids
  • FIRE-15110 rlva @getattach does not work
  • FIRE-15101 Bottom toolbar buttons show in mouselook
  • FIRE-15085 Object view not working in build 4.6.9.42969
  • FIRE-14471 Editing quick prefs crash

If you go to get a new Firestorm version, you’ll find that only version 4.6.9-42974 is available for download. If you have version 42696 and are NOT having problems then there is no reason to get the slightly newer release.
