Servers
No rolls on the main or RC channels this week.

Some of the images/art that comes from Second Life™ are amazing. While I wouldn’t mistake this for an image that comes from RL, I am impressed at the detail in the image.

General Viewer Information
Not much new information. But, from the Third Party Developers’ meeting I hear a new version will released March 16. This version will have the update to TLS 1.2, the security upgrade needed to do money stuff in Second Life™. Usually this close to release I am seeing things about a release in the FS Wiki … Read more
Today, Tuesday, we are getting a roll to the main channel. This updates is made up of a crash fix and minor ‘improvements’.

We do not yet know what is happening with RC channels. They are marked TBD – To Be Decided. We might or might not have a roll out to the RC channels tomorrow, Wednesday.
We are to the final stages of a new Firestorm Viewer release. Jessica Lyon, team leader, says they have pushed all new work into a new development branch as the finalize testing on their release candidate. This next release will have TLS 1.2 (Transport Layer Security).

TLS is sort of part of SSL and sort of a replacement. It is enough to know that it is the part of the viewer that secures all the viewer’s money handling communications. I forget the cutoff date, but there is a date coming soon when a viewer MUST have TLS 1.2 or the SL servers will refuse to talk to the the viewer for money things. You can use your viewer and run around SL. But, you won’t be able to buy things.
Friday (2/26) saw the Third Party Developers user group meeting. It lasted about 40 minutes. We have some interesting news and even a few specific details. You can watch the video of the meeting here, thanks to Pantera Północy.

There isn’t much change in the Viewer pipeline. Work is proceeding but some of the problems have taken time to resolve. The RC viewers are revealing problems, which is the whole point of having RC versions.
Last week (7) saw an unusual rollout for an update with a security fix in the under lying Linux code.

This week (8) there is no roll to the main channel. There will be a roll to the RC channels with all three getting the same package; RC BlueSteel, LeTigre, and Magnum. There is a Server crash fix and some minor improvements…
So, not much news on the server front.
