Second Life News   #51

Servers

The main grid was to get version #18.12.05.522294 on Tuesday 12/18. My region did not get a restart. The last restart was 12/4 and my home region is running this version. So… wasup?

The three RC channels updated to version #18.12.03.522210 Wednesday.

The RC Snack channel is said to be running an EEP version 18.12.14.522551.

At the Server-Scripting UG meeting, there was some discussion of how the coming ability to change avatar names might work. It quickly becomes obvious that third-party service providers need someway to ID avatars with changing names. Think ‘redelivery terminals’.

It was noted that the new LSL functions for Animesh are not included in the Wiki LSL documentation. Oops. The Lindens are looking to get that fixed.

One of the server updates seems to be causing people to disconnect. This is more of a problem in ADITI. If you are seeing the problem let the Lindens know which region and what date and time.

No UG meetings until January 8th

Busy RL. Work, shopping, traffic, border closed…

Servers

There is a deploys post… everything is TBD…

This is the second week for the main channel without an update. So, there will be restarts.

We probably will see an update to the RC and Snack channels. But, one will have to be at the Server-Scripting UG to get any clues.

The word from the meeting is the RC’s are getting an update with internal fixes… Simon Linden says they took out a large amount of logging code dealing with mesh. Like from back in the mesh-development days. Now that mesh mostly works, the logging is not needed.

Voice is a problem over on ADITI. They are working on that. The fix is in the pipeline.

There is some new code for region crossings. This code will limit the ‘prediction’ calcs and hopefully, reduce rubber banding. Simon doesn’t know which release will have that code. So, we likely won’t see this code until after the holidays.

I hope your Thanksgiving was enjoyable. Love pumpkin pie…

Servers

This is the second week in a row that there has been no Deploys post. My home region in the main channel did not get a restart today.

According to Simon Linden there are no rolls to the RC’s coming this week. But he thinks there will be next week. So, we might get one more a main channel update before Christmas.

The Snack channel was updated with a new EEP version.

Viewers

The main viewer is version 6.0.0.520636. We changed to this version in week #46.

Second Life Bugsplat Viewer version 5.1.9.519462 – Last updated in week #37.

Second Life EAM Viewer version 5.2.0.520057 – Moved from Project Viewer to this RC in week #40.

Second Life Love Me Render Viewer version 6.0.1.521759 – New this week. A previous update in week #46.

Second Life Maintenance Viewer version 6.0.1.521757 – Updated last week, #47.

Second Life Project 360 Snapshot Viewer version 5.1.6.515934 – Last updated in week #10.

Second Life Project Bakes On Mesh Viewer version 5.1.10.520711 – Last updated in week #44.

Second Life Project EEP Viewer version 6.0.0.521947 – New this week. The previous update in week #47. This viewer branch has updated two weeks in a row.

We have not seen much change this past week. Because of the holiday, the Lab has held off changes and updates that could affect grid performance. This is referred to as ‘No Change Windows’. We should see changes pop again for the next couple of weeks. Then Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays will bring us another No Change Window.

Rider Linden is finishing up EEP script functions. Currently finishing llSetAgentEnvironment() on the server side. Next is doing the viewer side.

Adobe is killing me… Premiere Pro 2019 is SSOoooOOoo messed up. I keep hoping for a follow-up update to fix it.

So, I have a little time to keep up with SL while I wait on them and try to think up workarounds that won’t require big chunks of my time.

Servers

It is Monday about noon as I start writing. No Deploys thread post. Maybe later?

Updating on Tuesday from the Server Scripting UG meeting, still no forum post on the deploys.

The main channel was updated this morning (Tuesday) according to Simon Linden. My region restart meter should my main channel home region was restarted. It is running #18.11.09.521593.

The main and RC channels are all supposedly running the same version today. There are no more updates this week but there are some planned for the first days of December… per Simon.

We are approaching a series of no-change-windows… So, not much will be happening. Because of Thanksgiving in the USA, there are no Thursday or Friday UG meetings.

In the first week of December, we should see a new LSL function: llReplaceAgentEnvironment. This function only runs from an Experience enabled script… meaning it has to be part of an Experience.

Second Life News 2018 w46 – Animesh

I was upgrading my computer with a larger C: drive. Cloning a 1TB drive with only 35GB of free space takes far longer than I expected. Plus, Acronis’ idea of fitting a drive to a larger disk is rather lame. The Western Digital free version of Acronis is a great tool for adding new drives, but it has FEW options for cloning.

I now have my main workstation back and continue my fight with Adobe software. Photoshop 2019 is good. But Premiere Pro 2019, their video editing software, is totally unusable. My RL work time line is now almost 2 weeks behind.

Servers

The main channel got an upgrade to #18.11.01.521329. This is the version with logging improvements and land impact/streaming cost accounting.

The three RC channels all get #18.11.09.521593. Listed as Internal Fixes.

The Snack channel is running an EEP update. So, those regions in the main grid have EEP. Still the only place to play with EEP is over in ADITI at EEPTesting. You’ll need the EEP project viewer.

UDP Asset updates are being removed from the servers. This will have an impact on older viewers. This goes into service Jan 6, 2019. The idea is to remove file serving from region simulators.

There will be a note in Open Source List telling where viewers can be tested (ADITI of course) the ‘No UDP’ servers.
