This last Friday was the Third Party Developers’ meeting facilitated by Oz Linden. We have a burst of news from that meeting. Several projects were updated.

Viewers

I’ve already covered the update of the SL Default/Main Viewer and the RC Viewers. There was no new news regarding these viewers.

However, some props are due NiranV. The new snapshot panel is his creation. It is well done. I personally like using it. NiranV also corrected some other problems in the snapshot process. So, it is more than just a cosmetic change.

Send NiranV a thank you.

Project Viewers

The Oculus Rift Project viewer is in QA as a DK2 project and lots of issues are being found and worked on. Fixes are flowing into that project viewer. So, far the viewer will support DK1 as best it can.

My understanding is the DK2 version of the project is NOT yet published on the RC Viewer page, but soon.

RC Channels

The RC Channels get a maintenance release that fixes some edge case problems and some issues with Skill Game regions access. Nothing exciting.

Viewers

The main SL Viewer has updated to 3.7.15-293376. This was the Snowstorm RC Viewer. It has the new snapshot panel, which I really like.

Viewer news from Oz Linden is pretty thin, his word. I’ve covered most of the viewer news earlier in the week. Oz basically said at this Friday’s Third Party Developers Meeting that projects discussed at the previous meeting are still ongoing and there is no new news on them.

I think this is basically the lull in feature development and bug fixes that comes from the Lindens stopping to work on development tools and upgrade to the new compilers. It is an analogy to car manufactures that stop production of cars to retool for production of the next model year cars.

Thursday we found out what happened to the RC channel rollout that was to happen Wednesday morning. It got postponed to Thursday. The reason was the rollout software hiccupped. By late Wednesday the problem was found and fixed. The rollout proceeded Thursday morning.

For information on the packages rolling out see: Second Life News 2014-34-35.

We did find out the problem fixed by the roll to the main channel had to do with a region crash. Under a special set of circumstances, not that rare to happen, sending a TP to someone would crash the region they were in.
