Second Life: Adult Content Problems

I am writing more about sex in virtual worlds and Second Life™ than I’m getting… Ciaran Laval has an article about Twitch: Twitch Explicitly Prohibits Second Life With Rules Of Conduct Update. The TL:DR is simply they have banned all content from Second Life, by name. The official details are in the Twitch RoC Update. I think there has been another edit since Ciaran posted his article.

They say added for clarity:

If a game’s US version is rated Adults Only by the ESRB, you should not broadcast that game on Twitch. However, ESRB rated Mature versions of Adults Only titles are permitted for streaming, such as Mature versions of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy.

Games rated 18+ by other rating systems are fine to stream, so long as they are not rated AO by the ESRB, and they don’t violate the standard language of our RoC and ToS.

The peeps at Twitch are making it clear Adult Only… meaning sexual, content is NOT welcome. They list the games by name and SL is one. I suspect this is a move to save time and effort on their part, they are deciding what is too sexy by the game not the actual content. That saves them time looking at and deciding if the content crosses their line.

Second Life in the NEWS

Massively Overpowered has an article by Bree Royce, I think she wrote it, titled SEX, LOVE, AND MMOS in the Working as Intended column. Second Life™ is mentioned but is not the focus. The image used for the article is from Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Bree is on about the hypocrisy of those diss’ing those that role play sexual encounters in games. Also, the ridiculous concepts of putting down those RP’ing sex while playing as mostly nude female warriors slaughtering their way to the next level.

Hooking Up in Second Life – Lessons

Canary Beck is writing lots of Second Life related interesting stuff lately. Or maybe it is just that I’m following her blog now and seeing it now. Whichever, she has an article about how men can pick up women or at least how to approach them and improve their odds of success: How To Approach A Woman In Second Life.

Here's an idea...

There are mistakes guys make in Second Life that are not made in real life. Canary touches on most of those. She also has quite a collection of bad pickup lines to avoid using. Those alone make it worth a read.

So… How Sex Crazed is Second Life?

I like to question my thinking, prejudices, biases, and beliefs. Too many in our society have no skepticism and to be non-PC; are simply gullible. So, I really question what I hear people saying. When Hamlet says we have all these pornographic regions devoted to sex and violence…. Do we?

Ricco Saenz wrote an article that is right in line with the irreverent questioning I enjoy. See: A pornographic tour. Ricco takes a look at many of the adult regions that Hamlet pointed to to support his statement that sex is big in Second Life™. Ricco provides a deeper look at Hamlet’s porno regions. I think it will revise your thinking on how pornographic the adult regions are… well, aren’t.

Is Second Life Sex More Fun than RL Sex?

Someone got the idea to run a poll of which sex is more fun, RL or SL/Virtual sex. RL won, no surprise there. But, 36% thought Second Life™ sex was more fun… hummm.

On a side note: It is the owner of Basilique, the place where the Lindens are doing their meet up today, that conducted the study: Canary Beck.

Maria Korolov posted a link to a recent study of sex in SL in her: Survey: virtual sex less fun, but more liberated.

The full study she refers to is here:  Second Life sex versus real life sex. It is long and well worth reading. I touch on JUST the parts I found really interesting.

No surprise, they found in a 2012 study and this recent study that sexual practices in Real Life and Second Life differ. So, you are not the only one that is more kinky in SL than RL.

Second Life and Adult Sex

This week there is flurry of postings about the Atlas Obscura article about Second Life™. Strawberry Singh Ziki Questi is disappointed in Hamlet’s New World Notes post I think is attempting to put things into some perspective and warn of the problems with the type of posts that unrealistically spin the nature of SL. She Plurked: …read this ill informed post… referring to Hamlet’s post.

Hamlet’s post may be annoying to many, but I can’t see where he is misinformed. See: Reporter Who Only Gets Expert Tour of Second Life Only Gets Part of Second Life’s Story Right
