CNN SL News – iReport or Be a Reporter

Finding my previous post item I wondered what CNN is up to now. Well, CNN provides a place for virtual world types to report on the things they find. Now that is cool. They probably don’t want to pay a report to cover our worlds but at least they will let us do it. And who better could do it?

So, if you aspire to be a writer/reporter/journalist, check out iReport or visit CNN in world. You can learn how to be a reporter and file stories on iReport. Cool. I think the world needs more good reporters. Professional Journalists seem to be a bunch of lazy slime bags with no connection to RL… is that PC enough? Whatever, it’s time the people took back their countries and out the corrupt and abusive politicians and scam artists. Obviously the current main stream media reports have no clue. They certainly have no clue about the politics and abuses in virtual worlds or the directions they are taking.

Unsharding Virtual Worlds

Unsharding Virtual Worlds

Now there is an odd phrase.

I read an article that is talking about MMO’s and player participation in the story… players having a real effect on the game story. Sound familiar? Their thought is that this is currently the last real unsolved challenge in MMO game design. I read the review with Myst Online in mind thinking about the MMO features we may need and some of the challenges. So, here are some of the concepts and how I see them in Myst Online.

Particle Class Owner Banning Students Becomes a Circus

A friend recently went to attend a widely advertised SL class on particles. She expected nothing like what happened. She arrived and was banned as the class started, poof outa here. When contacting the class instructor/promoter/landowner she was told she was ejected for spamming. She knew she had not but the argument went nowhere and she could not get into the class. Feeling rejected and interested in the class she tried several approaches all with the same results.

This is bizarre. Someone offering a free class banning participants makes no sense. Then when one finds out that he is also selling scripts and other things from the area and banning customers too, it’s even more bizarre.

Nalates Things & Stuff

This blog is about various Things & Stuff I find interesting in Second Life and Myst Online, mostly Second Life.

I first visited Second Life in March 2008, shortly after the GameTap version of Myst Online closed. A number of players from Myst Online entered Second Life after Myst closed. About 600 of us are in SL now, Feb 2011. Most Myst fans can be found in the group D’ni Refugees. There are other Myst related groups. Search for them here: Second Life Groups. Dances, karaoke, building classes, and parties are regular events within the Myst Community. Join the D’ni Refugees to stay informed.

I first had a home in Minkartah, a privately owned island. A group of Myst fans into role play built the island, hotel, and market in Minkartah, which has changed to Minkarta and no longer has a market. Some of the Myst fans from Uru Live play in Minkarta. The Minkarta owners also own and built Crux Isle, a Myst style build of puzzles that is a fan story based on Myst Online Uru Live. Unfortunately the World Map teleport drops you in an odd place rather then the game start. However, there is a link there that will take you to the game start. It is a fun and challenging puzzle story.

I used to have a little shop in the Second Life region Minkartah.  The shops used to be a regular stop on treasure hunts, but that era is past and the shops are gone. But, if you have an SL account you can visit:Marketplace – Nalates Urriah, which is my online store in the SL Market Place.

Hello WordPress!

This is my first WordPress blog. Way more things to look at here than at eBlogger. This should be an interesting learning experience. I am learning to setup Word 2007 to use with blogs. Lots of popups telling me they are going to send my ID/password to the blog… have to turn that off, annoying.

Well, I’ll be playing with this for a time…
