New SL Bug Breaking Content

A problem with note cards has popped up. In certain circumstances scripts cannot open note cards. This means scripts dependent on configuration note cards are failing.

SVC-7354 – Simulator fails to load notecard asset.

The grid is getting (or has gotten, depending when you read this) an emergency roll out to fix this problem.

Torley Focus Changes

Torley Linden’s user page just changed, adding a cryptic sentence, “My work focuses have drastically changed as of mid-October 2011. I hope to eventually update this. I know the Observers are watching me; if you get my drift, I’m the Olivia Dunham of this shiznit.

Olivia is a character in the TV series Fringe. Her notable characteristics are a doppelganger in a parallel universe, a sort of mind link to her dying lover-partner, higher mind function from a childhood government experiment (or is it from an experiment on children?), the ability to discern whether objects originated in a parallel universe, and other unspecified psychic abilities.

That makes for a pretty broad drift to ‘get’.

Lots of hints are appearing that changes are coming to SL.

Phoenix Hour Week 41

You can find the latest Phoenix Hour video here: Phoenix Hour. The following is my summary of the Hour. There are several interesting items disclosed in the meeting. But, there are no ETA’s on FS (Firestorm) or PH (Phoenix) release dates. There is one BIG PROBLEM looking ahead, see 53:00.

01:00 – 1 year of Phoenix Hour Shows

02:00 – LL server upgrades – No one had any clue what they were talking about. You can skip this section. See the Server News here. In the menu  click The Stuff -> SL Server Related.

04:00 – Fake support groups. A number of fake support groups with rather rude and abusive support people pose as Phoenix support groups. This is resulting in complaint coming into the Phoenix Team.

One can tell if the group is a ‘real’ Phoenix support group. Look in the member list for Jessica Lyon or Ed Merryman. If a group is a real Phoenix group, it will have one or both of these names as the group owners. Use the fake groups at your own risk.

SL Viewer Interface to Change

Well… this should be interesting. We are getting a new Viewer Interface by the end of October or there about.

It also explains why the viewer development team has basically disappeared. While the Lindens were proclaiming they would never do another Hide and Develop project without user input, our new CEO having messed that fiasco has the Lab apparently doing exactly that… we’ll see how it works.

The announcement is at SLUniverse. This is an expansion of the recent SL Forum announcement of New Things in SL. The information is about a week old. Finding these gems of information in odd places plus some stats someone posted in the  SLUniverse thread about how many have read the SLUniver forum vs the SL Forum shows the Lindens have yet to figure out how to communicate with the users.

Dolphin Viewer 3 (3.0.10) Review

Lance has release a new version of the Dolphin Viewer. A problem with it not saving your preferences has been fixed.

Download & Install

This one is a very standard download and install. Nothing new and no gotcha’s to deal with.

Experience

I stumbled across the Local Bitmap Browser that has apparently been part of the Dolphin Viewer since version 3.0.9. This feature allows you to work with textures on your hard disc without having to pay an upload fee. This is like the Temp Uploads in other viewers with some nice differences.

New Development Viewers

I came across an old wiki page that is getting new updates. Rob Linden started the page in 2006. For the last few months Oz Linden and Wolfpup Lowenhar have been updating the page almost weekly. If you are interested in what is going on in viewer development, you may find the page interesting.

Downloading test builds

You can get versions of development viewers made by the Snowstorm Team and TPV Developers.

Be warned that these viewers may have more or less problems than the current stable release of the SLViewer or related TPV.

The Snowstorm download on the ‘test builds’ page seem to the the same link found on the Snowstorm Project page.

The latest Snowstorm Development Viewer is: Second Life 3-1-1-242785 Development.
