Cool VL Viewer Release 1.26.8.22

Henri Beauchamp has released a new viewer version of his Cool VL Viewer. The blog is here: Cool VL Viewer. The release notes are here.

If I understand correctly, this version is using the render engine from the SL Viewer 3.5. That would mean the engine is Materials Capable.

There are bug fixes that deal with mesh objects download and rigged mesh causing crashes. Memory problem detection has been improved, meaning  less crashes. Also changes for more efficient use of memory. FMOD Ex has been updated, this has to do with sound other than voice.

There is an experimental version of the viewer: 1.26.9.22 that includes Materials support from SL Viewer code version 3.6 and the Mesh Deformer. This version should have those features enabled on both OpenSim and SL grids.

Scroll down the blog page to find the 1.26.9 Experimental download.

Kokua Viewer 3.6.2 Released

Late yesterday a post appeared on the Kokua-Imprudence blog about the release of a new Kokua Viewer version. See: Kokua 3.6.2 is released.

Kokua is one of the third party viewers (TPV) testing the new Linden viewer update pipeline. That process has been added to Kokua. It will of course update from the Kokua downloads rather than Linden downloads. This will allow them to push updates to you.

I still find it annoying to be in a hurry to log in and get popped in the face with a “Youse gotta update NOW…” message. It will be interesting to see how TPV Dev’s handle this annoyance.

There are other fixes and new features.

RestrainedLove Viewer 2.8.5.1

A new release of RLViewer is out. You don’t really need it… no, I’m being nice. There is a problem with version 2.8.5.0 and version 2.5.8.1 is sort of a fix. Or you can just follow directions in the announcement post and fix your currently installed 2.8.5.0 version viewer.

See: RestrainedLove Viewer 2.8.5.1. You need to copy 5 files from the SL Viewer install folder over to the RLV folder.

Or download the new RestrainedLove Viewer 2.8.5.1 version here.

There is also a problem with Materials in the viewer. It breaks InvisiPrims… REALLY!!! I thought that had been broken in the SL Viewers forever. Whatever, Marine Kelley has been providing support for InvisiPrims because some RLV products need them to hide parts of the avatar under script control.

It looks like Marine is not going to be able to cobble up a working fix. Marine is planning to change the products to operate a different way. So, I guess start writing off InvisiPrims permanently.

Firestorm Blocking Update

Today Jessica Lyon posted on the Firestorm blog about Saturday’s 3 hour Q & A meeting. See: Q&A – Don’t be surprised… be informed.

In the comments the key question was asked. When will Phoenix blocking start? Jessica answered:

We haven’t decided yet what we will do with Phoenix. I may not have been clear at the meeting but the 3 version rule will start as of now, existing builds don’t really fall into the rule because we expect SSA will kill them off anyways. However if after SSA is fully deployed for a few weeks, we see there are still thousands on Phoenix, we ‘may’ decide to block it. I would rather avoid that if I could though.

Singularity 1.8.1 Released

With word coming that the Phoenix and older Firestorm viewers will be blocked from the SL Grid by the Firestorm Team, it would seem Singularity is in a good position to pick up more users. So, this new release is welcome news to many.

The headline for Singularity is that it gets Media On A Prim (MOAP) with this version.  There are 20± more additions to the Singularity Viewer.

See the announcement here: 1.8.1 – Prim Media.

Explosive Firestorm Meeting

This is going to be controversial and upset a lot of people. What it is, is a two hour and 45 minute video of a Firestorm meeting that showed up on YouTube. I didn’t see any announcement of the meeting. I do watch for such announcements. Some get past me. Whatever, there is some hot news in the video. If your in a hurry to see what is going to upset people, look for the red text (hint: page 2).

The video below is from a Firestorm-in-development viewer. It shows Materials in Firestorm. This version has not yet been released it is coming. It is not the video of the meeting.

I doubt many will have time for watching the whole three hours of video of the August 10th Q & A meeting. I have a link to it at the end of the article. I decided to index it while I worked my way through it. It would be great if it were an MP3. I could play at 1.5x speed.

I am paraphrasing the whole video index I’ve made. My biases and prejudices can color what I hear. So, if something tics you off, watch the video then start your rant.

This is a Firestorm Q&A meeting where Jessica Lyon gets into some hard to swallow news. This is the end of the Phoenix Viewer.
