Viewer Evolution User Group Closed?

Communication?

Once upon a time we had a group that dealt with the evolution of the Second Life Viewer. Esbee Linden ran the group for a time then left Linden Lab. After she left Oz Linden ran the group for a time. When Esbee came back to the Lab Oz dropped the meeting. Presumably it was Esbee’s to deal with.

Office Hours – User Groups

The User Groups page used to have a Viewer Evolution User Group (VEUG). That has been removed. Some of the meeting archives still survive. Some links for VEUG now forward to the Open Development User Group (ODUG) or so I’ve heard. I haven’t found any links left.

The ODUG meets Wednesdays at 1:30 PM SLT/PDT. See the User Groups page for location.

SL Mesh News Week 39

Mesh Clothes in Non-mesh Viewer

Collada 1.4.1

The latest mesh development viewer has support for Collada 1.4.1. Download Page. Most problems are fixed. There are still some reporting problems with Blender rigged mesh.

Auto Return ADITI Mesh Sandboxes

Auto-return got turned off in the ADITI mesh sandboxes. That is going to be corrected. So, the area will start clearing again, probably by the time you read this.

JIRA SH-2240

As OpenGL, I want applications to not use the fixed function, because it is deprecated. – SL is using OpenGL Version: 3.3.0. There are problems with the viewer and OpenGL. Fixing the issues is a high Linden priority. It is still in process.

For those getting out of memory errors, try turning off private memory pool management, which I don’t know if it is a compile setting or a Debug Setting (MemoryPrivatePoolEnabled).  See: VWR-26864

Second Life Adult Content Week 39

Adult Welcome Areas

The proposals for what to do with the Adult Welcome Areas are to be in by September 30. Viale Linden says if things go well he will advise us as to the winning proposal (Proposal Reference) Monday the 5th.  That should make for an interesting meeting. If not the week after.

Viale says only a handful of proposals have been received.

Destination Guide

Reports are coming in from those people that have gotten entries into the Destination Guide. Some are saying their traffic has doubled. In last week’s article I provided information about getting your region into the DG.

I’ve added DG information to the User Group page and to the Zindra page.

llSetKeyFramedAnimation

It’s official now. Oskar announced it for Falcon…  see the official post here: Keyframing now available on ADITI.

The function name is confusing. Falcon posted late Monday that he was thinking of changing the function name to:  llSetKeyframedMotion, which would probably be a good idea.

If you follow the blog you’ve already read about this function, so I won’t rehash it here.

If not, check out the llSetKeyFramedAnimation related articles.

Phoenix Viewer Hour Week 38

A new Phoenix Hour has come and gone. Here is my index of the video.

The video is here: The Phoenix Hour – Sept. 20, 2011

Phoenix Hour

00:00 is zero minutes and seconds.

01:30 – Introductions end. Vacations for the Firestorm-Phoenix (FS/PH) Team are over now that holidays are past. So, work should progress faster.

02:00 – FS has some render problems. The problems are in the Linden code. Once the Lab fixes their GPU problems the team plans a new FS release ASAP. In the mean time effort are under way for Windlight problem. Windlight settings are reverting to defaults on teleport and relog. The contacts list has been displaying two columns of names, display and login. That is a bug.  Spell check will be in the next release.

03:15 – The Inventory panel has a really annoying problem. You see it when working in the inventory panel/window. The list suddenly jumps to the top entry. The team has set that as a high priority and hopes to have it fixed in the next release. Hope is the keyword.

Second Life Road Network

I’m not big on cars and vehicles in Second Life. I can fly! There is no extra cost for taking my inventory with me. So, I’ve never seen the point of cars and planes. I do think jetskis are fun. But, for those that like cars and bikes Governor Linden has made roads. I recently saw the SL Wiki getting updates about the roads. There are new road maps in the Wiki.

Second Life Road Network Directory

The main page of the directory is titled: Second Life Road Network Directory.

Second Life
Heteroccera Atoll Roads and Railway

There are currently 10 continents with roads. On some the Governor has decreed the right-of-way and space is reserved for roads. There is a Linden Department of Public Works (LDWP) that builds various shared facilities in Second Life’s mainland. Helping the department are residents. If you are interested, contact the ‘Moles’ for how you can join in. Visit the Wiki to get names.
