Hamlet is interested in feeds people like. He asks for widgets that people use to show off various Flickr  feeds. Feeds… hmmmm. I have various sites feeding into my Feedly reader. But, what feeds can one take directly from Flickr? About a zillion… and that is just those related to Second Life. but Flickr feeds are not intuitive and I don’t see a feed button.

Flickr HELP is out of date, referring to a button at the bottom right of the page. No… I don’t see a RSS or Subscribe button. Some of the pages I would want to subscribe to have no bottom…

Second Life: Fantasy Faire 2015

The SL Blogosphere is abuzz with word that the Fantasy Faire organizers are taking applications from bloggers… I wonder if my readers are  mostly other bloggers. Looking at my stats, no… not possible. There are not anywhere near as many SL bloggers as I have daily readers… I eliminate the fashion and porn bloggers in my thinking because I am pretty sure I don’t have enough of their favorite fare here. So, that eliminates lots of SL bloggers from my counting.

Fantasy Faire will be open to the public from April 23 to May 3. This is the 7th annual faire. It supports Relay for Life. It is also a fun time with some exceptional builds and places to explore.

Second Life Viewers 2015 Week 13

Kokua 3.7.26-35224 Released

The Kokua team seems to now be generating a steady stream of viewer releases. A week ago they release this new version. This Kokua viewer is on par with the SL Viewer 3.7.25-299021. The SL 3.7.25 version was a maintenance release with mostly bug fixes.

With this release the dual releases of Second Life and OpenSim versions stops. This version runs on both SL and OS grids.

SL Viewer

The main viewer is 3.7.25-299021.

Internal Tools

in Second Life we have no internal mesh creation or editing tools. We only have tools for working with the parametric primitives. Of course the layout tools in the SL Viewer will handle either prims or mesh. But those layout tools are showing a little bit of age and the main SL Viewer still doesn’t have prim alignment tools.

Supported Platforms

Ebbe Altberg, Linden CEO. talked to us at VWBRE 2015 about which platforms they’re going to be supporting. In general terms the Linden intention is to support as many as possible. We know the Lab has tried browser based viewers in the past. I don’t recall any attempt to provide a mobile based viewer. But, those are part of the plan now.

What’s Coming?

We haven’t heard much about what they are building into NGP for months. In his speech for VWBRE Ebbe Altberg (Linden) makes it clear that all technology being developed by the Lab is for both NGP and Second Life (SL). This doesn’t mean everything being developed for NGP is going to make it into Second Life or vice-versa. Nor does it imply how everything is implemented in Second Life will be similarly implemented in NGP. But, there are interesting clues as to what’s currently happening in both.
