Griefer Monday cut into Kelly’s and Nyx Linden’s meetings. So, not much news from those meetings. I think pretty much everyone knows about the Advanced Creator or Experience Tools getting lose from the Release Channels.

Earthquake Map

One of the Scripting/Server meetings was hijacked by Slee Mayo’s fun new educational toy. It uses the LSL functions for HTTP data queries to make a live near real time map of earthquakes. See the opening image. Plus I was distracted and late getting there and they stopped posting transcripts in early May, so not much news from that meeting.

SVC-7902 – Problem of not being able to rez on my land continues. This fix went to release channel Magnum Wednesday.

MetaReality’s Make Your Own Stuff!

I’m always interested in hearing anything about the Mesh Deformer especially when when Karl Stiefvater (aka Qarl Fizz aka Qarl Linden)  is talking. So, running through the MetaReality outline on Friday is a regular thing for me. Not much new on the Deformer, but Gianna touches on some of the Avatar 2 stuff I’ve been reporting on.

  • 01:20 – What would a new Second Life look/function like?
    • Qarl thinks the current problems are with the Lab more than they are with Second Life. So, whatever they made for Third Life would still have ‘Lab Problems.’
    • Gianna’s take is whatever Second Life became it is a matter of the
    • 04:15 Mainit Hellman’s opinion is if they fix some things Second Life would be better. He would check out a new SL.

Greifer Monday

Today we are seeing new griefer toy creating chaos.

The new Linden Realm’s Advanced Creator Tools currently in Magnum is being user to create teleporters with broken permissions. When taken outside Magnum the toys will teleport people without their permission.

This morning I got to see the Cornfield for the first time. Then they teleported a load of people into the Scripting UG Meeting.

An immediate fix is for a region owner to turn scripts off.

Or, if your region is in the Magnum Release Channel it is immune.

Otherwise expect chaos until the Lindens figure out a fix, which may be to roll the package running on Magnum to the main grid.

PS: Motor Loon says, “Hi mom!”

UPDATE: The server updates rolled  late Monday seems to have fixed the problem.

SLACTIONS, the international research conference on virtual worlds, is including a Machinima Festival this year as part of its exploration of met averse creativity. The RL/SL conference will occur November 15 – 17 with the Machinima track on the first day, and virtual film directors are encouraged to submit their works for consideration in this global event.

Now in its fourth year, SLACTIONS is an annual international conference held simultaneously in several countries on the topic of metaverse platforms. Topics range from educational research to content production, from gender studies to media distribution, and from metaverse-based branding, advertising, and fundraising to emerging mash-ups and technology applications. SLACTIONS is unique in its format too, as a one-of-a kind event conducted both in a metaverse platform (Second Life) and on-site in multiple countries throughout the world. SLACTIONS contributes to the current redefinition of the way we think about hybrid online and on-site scholarly collaborations.
