Second Life’s Jelly Babies – BUG?

The coming Quick Graphics Viewer now in RC has some odd behaviors. Well, it is an RC version, so no surprise. One of the ideas with this viewer is to reduce render lag by telling the viewer to avoid rendering complex avatars. These are avatars with lots of high polygon count attachments and large textures that require lots of computer power to render.

There is a setting in Preferences* that lets you set a personal limit for what you want your viewer to render. Any avatar over that limit will render as a jelly baby. But, if you change the setting to NO LIMIT you’ll find there are still avatars that render as jelly babies. What’s up with that?  Continue reading

Second Life’s Mesh Mess

Kat Feldragonne is a mesh fan. But recently had a problem with mesh render time at an event. It apparently was frustrating enough Kat wrote about the experience: Mesh Mess – A Lesson in Frustration. If you read it, I suspect you will know exactly what Kat is writing about. I’ve experienced the problem. I suspect most of us have.

Slow Render Problems

Slow Render Problems

There are places and times when it seems to take forever for things to render. Avatars are missing parts or clothes are gray and stuck on sideways or at some odd direction. Nude avatars render in all their glory and only later do the clothes render. Of course the nude person has no idea their clothes have yet to render for those around them. The clothes always render quickly for the one wearing them. Continue reading

AvaStar News Week 39

Gaia Clary is working to release an improved AvaStar 1.6 in October of this year. (Reference) An ‘Alpha’ version has been available since June. (Ref) But, it is not recommended for production or new users. The change is Gaia trying to get a better work flow for fitted mesh creation.

“Surrounded by an embrace”

People are becoming more interested in working with the various mesh bodies. I’m doubting Gaia can do much that is specific to any private brand of mesh body or would want to. I don’t see a necessity to try. We are building better polygon layouts than the classic avatar’s. So, our weighting will be better and likely unique. Plus we will have polygon layouts that vary from the various mesh bodies as the bodies use different layouts.  But, if we have good layout and weights, our stuff is going to work well with most bodies mesh or classic.  Continue reading

Comparison: Mesh Bodies

The site MeshBodyAddicts.com has new reviews and comparison charts of the mesh bodies available in Second Life. So, if you are shopping, this is a good source of information. See: Reviews: Isteni, Tonic & Dude SLink!

As of now there is no Render Complexity Information in the reviews. With the Complexity Feature on the way (See Quick Graphics viewer in Alternates) I think this is a huge oversight.

Second Life Fashion Week 35

Second Life™ has fashion. From outrageous high fashion to clubbing to street slut and into the depths of humiliating bondage there is fashion in SL… whatever your taste or lack of… I’m more into what Kate del Castillo or Jessica Biel might wear, Latino and an American actresses, respectively.  There is a look I go for… whether I achieve it or not is debatable.

Dolls and Demons - Feedly Page

Dolls and Demons – Feedly Page

So, while I’m not a fashion writer, I am a bit of a fashion follower. So, finding the blog Dolls and Demons is like finding candy. Alles Klaar is the blogger and says:

This [Dolls and Demons] is a place of virtual fashion dreams and the occasional nightmare, with lots and lots of quirkiness in between. It’s a place that I call home and one that I hope you will visit too.

Second Life’s Festival of Sin II

We have lots of events in Second Life and Festival of Sin II (SLURL) is another. Ciaran Laval and the Hottie Cootrati Experience have covered the festival.

Festival of Sin II - August 2015

Festival of Sin II – August 2015

It has rules… whaaaat?

  1. Have fun!
  2. Don’t be shy, we encourage debauchery of all kinds. We’re equal opportunity sinners.
  3. EXPLORE! There’s lots of hidden surprises lurking about the sim. Click things, look around corners.  Have a seat. >:}
  4. Don’t be a dick.

That is all.
If you have any questions or need any assistance, please contact Shiloh Selene (Barbie.Glas).

If you are into Gacha’s, there are plenty of those. I’m not that big on them. Nor am I all that into shopping ‘events’. So, I don’t often cover them. But, this is a build worth visiting. Mostly mesh and very well done. See what SL can be. Plus there is lots of nice stuff to buy.

Strawberry Bounces

Second Life’s Strawberry Singh has an article on Avatar Physics (booby bounce) with mesh bodies: Second Life Avatar Physics. It includes a link to this video: (dancing starts about halfway in)

Strawberry’s berries bounce…

Strawberry points us to Firestorm’s tutorial on Avatar Physics, which teaches you how to make your own physics layers. She has made her own layers for the Maitreya Lara mesh body. These are almost free (L$1).

Second Life’s 10th Annual Hair Fair

The trailer is an 8 minute video… a bit long.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzMPLRpgK8k

You probably know Hair Faire is an event to benefit Wigs for Kids. You can visit in-world here (SLURL). The fair ends July 26th.

As usual the regions are full to capacity, about 40 people. Peak use in SL is about 2 to 3 PM PT. The minimum use time is about 2 to 3 AM PT.
