I get everything working, then something breaks… So, I have some video from the first part of the meeting. The viewer never connected to voice. Took me a bit to realize it. Multi-tasking tends to promote oversights.
Re-logging broke OBS… and while I thought it was recording, it wasn’t…
Just a couple of days ago RC1 was released. About 2 hours ago RC2 was released. See: Avastar-2 RC2 is available. There is a download link on the announcement page to the new version.
Today I see AvaStar has a release candidate out: AvaStar 2.0-RC1. This version is available to all AvaStar owners that have a current subscription. I’m unsure how that affects AvaStar 1.7 owners without a support subscription.
The Plan is to have AvaStar 2.0 out in March 2017.
Gaia is promoting this release a hot potato with some likely rough spots. It’s hard to know if she is just lowering expectations or if there are known problems. Whatever the case, this is the update you’ll want.
Discussion is active in AvaStar Support – 13:15 SLT.
The Bento Project User Group has changed to the Bento Developers User Group. Discussion is about Bento problems being encountered.
Nimoe *Rain of red petals*
I’m still a bit loopy recovering from pneumonia. I messed up the video of this meeting. Oops.
One of the problems is the BVH animation files. The SL viewer-server upload of BVH runs an animation optimization process. Movements smaller than a certain amount are removed. This is creating a problem for those animating the new facial bones. Small movements are needed for subtle facial expressions. The BVH process filters them out.
Mesh development is shaking down into some common methods. This tutorial covers how to make Slink Nails using 2017 information. Section headings will give you an idea of what you can skip and what you need to read based on your experience level.
Basics
If you are totally new to Second Life™ there is a lot to learn. I am only touching on the parts needed to make nails for Slink Hands. Other brands of hands are similar.
Make Your Own Slink Finger Nails – 2017
Classic verses Slink Mesh
In 2013 Linden Lab, owner of Second Life (SL), added a feature we call ‘mesh’. Prior to that all things in SL were made of primitives, shortened to ‘prims’. Technically everything in SL is a primitive and made of mesh.
What we call mesh is a particular type of primitive just as a cube or sphere is a specific kind of primitive. While everything in SL is made of mesh (press Ctrl-Shift-R to see it), we only refer to things made in Blender, 3D Max, Maya, and other modeling programs and then imported to SL as ‘mesh’, more convenient than rational. Linden Lab® added the mesh prim in 2013.
Today Slink has released an update to their release of last week. Apparently, somebody found a bug… or two. Probably Whirly… Whatever, Siddeon released the fix and a bit of an upgrade. I got mine today. So, I have a new body for the new year.
The upgrade is the addition of a magnifying glass to make setting the upper body alphas easier.

Visit the Slink store (URL) and click the update kiosk to get your new update.
Obviously, the HUD updates. Many of the parts of the package have new version numbers. So, I’m replacing everything. I updated my nude body outfit using the new stuff. I think I had only made one outfit using the 3.00 version. But, I have a ton of outfits made using v2.8.
