Well… this week. There is no Bento meeting this Thursday. So, for a Bento fix, check some of the past announcements. These are a couple of videos I missed when initially released.
And Aki has a wyvern in development. If you watch the Bento Meeting videos you have seen the wyvern. And the avatar wings she has/is made/making.
I am disappointed when I find a dress I like and there is no demo available. My buying habits are simple. If a clothing item costs more than L$50 and has no demo, I won’t buy it. I probably won’t buy any dress or blouse that costs less than L$50. If I violate those limits I find I am disappointed about 9 out of 10 times.
So, what do I do with those demos? Here is a video showing my basic process. Dress makers should consider this process. I use it when I test demos and when I make clothes. I figure stuff I make has to pass these tests. So, stuff I buy should pass them too.
The first dress is tight fitting camisole ‘sheath’ and has a sizable leg slit. It is tight fitting and that makes poke through VERY likely.
The dress works well with the upper body (TM: 0:30). It is possible to peak in and see a nipple. But, one has to work to get a peak. That works for me. I don’t want to be flashing everyone when just standing. But, if he is all that interested… Continue reading →
Most animators attending the Bento UG meeting have been working with animating mesh heads and wings. But, the bones in the hands finalized some time ago. So, it is a little odd that we haven’t seen anyone do something with the hands. Now we have:
Vista Animations has a demo of what they have done with the hands.
They say they are going to release a beta version of the hand-animations ‘soon’. Well, that was a week ago. It’s out now. Link below.
It is then we will see the complications of keeping classic, mesh, pre-Bento, and post-Bento animations straight. Continue reading →
Facelights were a basic part of a well-dressed avatar, back in 2008. Especially for a dark skinned girl that wanted her eyes to show in her pictures. But, when Linden Lab added the Advanced Lighting Model (ALM) feature facelights often produced a good imitation of a solar flare. (Earth has been dealing with a solar flare since Friday, 9/30 – Phone giving you problems?)
The video shows one of my new facelights. The first part shows it attached to my ‘Center’ attachment point. The later part of the video shows it attached to my ‘Spine’ attachment point.
Facelights are now BAD and we see few people wearing them. A few merchants still supply facelights with their skin or clothes products. Photographers mostly use ALM and Windlight to handle their lighting needs. Some high-end photographers use PROJECTOR lights. But, old style facelights are pretty much a thing of the past. We seldom need facelights these days. But, there are still occasions when we need to add extra light. Continue reading →
No video this week. I recorded one. But, it is too much of a mess to try and clean up.

There is a new Bento Viewer out: Second Life Bento Viewer version 5.0.0.319688. This is the one that came out earlier this week. It is in RC stage now. If you login with your ‘old’ Project Viewer, it should automatically update. If you log into the ADITI grid and update you may get a second update when you log into the main grid, AGNI. It will be the same viewer version you already got but, the viewer is confused so it updates again. Some people have seen their viewers update twice. Continue reading →
This is your opportunity to test out the new Bento avatars. Akeruka and Catwa have test Bento Heads out. Damien Fate has a Bento Wings Kit out. Continue reading →
Everyone is excited by the new Bento heads. They are pretty neat. I am also excited about Bento Wings. I have a collection of prim/sculpty wings in my inventory. Some are way gorgeous. But, they are mostly just there, when worn. Project Bento is going to change that. We will be able to animate the Bento Wings in ways not before possible.

Damien Fate has a Bento Wings Kit out. See: FATEplay – Animated Wings Template. This is one of those Full Perm with an agreement type things where all the mesh and animation stuff is done. You only need to supply textures.
These show some of what can be done with Bento Wings. I expect some really impressive wings to start appearing.
Strawberry Singh recently revealed a test Bento Head made by Akeruka. Now the site Honey Junkie has an article showing a Catwa made Bento Head. See: Catwa Bento!
These heads are using the viewer’s shape panel to adjust the head’s shape. Daeberethwen Arbenlow has the thought that we will likely need multiple heads. I pretty much agree in the sense that we can’t deviate too much from the base look without getting distortions.
As you watch these reviews you’ll notice that some shape sliders don’t work. That is probably a metter of how the designers has weighted the head. I’ll point out the under bite slider not doing much is an on going source of problems. If you watch the Project Bento user group meetings you know teeth and lower lip overlaps have been an animation problem.
