Second Life: Open Source DJ Software

MIXX DJ Software

I came across this in my daily reading. KirstenLee Cinquetti started posting in the KirstenLee blog. There are two new posts apparently the first since 2015. Whatever, there is this interesting software for those DJ’ing in Second Life™.

See: K’s Software Pick of The Week! This is an article about the software MIXX. See it here: DJ Your Way. For Free. I don’t DJ in SL, but it looks way neat…

KIRSTENLEE Viewer Lives?

Long ago (2013 and before) KirstenLee Cinquetti made the KirstenLee Viewer. The S19 version was about the last in the series. Until the updates stopped KirstenLee’s Viewer was the photographer’s viewer of choice. It was my daily-use viewer.

I suppose the Black Dragon Viewer could be said to have taken over a similar position in the community. Firestorm Viewer is now my choice for photography.

However, back in 2013 there was a bit of a controversy in June 2013: S19 Viewer Controversy. There were also some health issues in KirstenLee’s family before the controversy that I thought were the primary reason for discontinuing the viewer updates.

KirstenLee is again compiling a viewer. See: KV SPRING CLEAN… You’ll find the viewer in SourceForge under Kirstens Viewers. I am not endorsing the viewer nor have I used it. But, I do find it interesting that it still lives.

Also, this viewer had an Anaglyph 3D feature (the middle image in the image), which would be a good reason to try it out.

Anaglyph 3D: The 3D that uses Red-Blue glasses to see 3D. A problem with anaglyphic viewing is distorted color.

I have my Samsung VR Gear and an S8 in process… woohoo!

Adobe Premiere and After Effects Changes

The new release of Adobe’s various products change the way we work. I think it is a great improvement. I am still learning how to change my work flow. This video gives you an idea of the important changes.

I used the latest Premiere CC 2017.1 to create my CCUG video. My YouTube uploads are here.

I can make all the video in Premiere now, including opening titles where I usually use a still processed in Photoshop. I do have to save a still shot of the opening title to use on YouTube. YouTube never allows me to choose the frame I want to use. Their three choices always suck.

Fantasy Faire 2017 Warning

Fantasy Faire (FF) is always awesome and it certainly is this year. I enjoy trekking through the regions. But, that is a challenge this year. Trying to walk from region to region is almost always failing, stripping off scripts, reducing ACI, and checking the population in my destination region are all failing.

Fantasy Faire 2017 – Morbus

I can walk across the region boundary but, then I am on one of those no-control-rubberbanding-walks. Before I ever recover the system logs me off.

My solution has been to use the world map to teleport into each region when I reach the boundary. So, far it seems to work way better. I can now see why so many are using the Fairelands Portals.

I am also finding the scripted things in many regions seem to not be working. I’ll hope for a Tuesday restart and revisit.

Content Creation UG 2017 w16

On Thursdays the Content Creation UG meets at 1PM SLT in Hippotropolis Campfire, AGNI. (URL) Medhue Simoni and I are both recording it. You’ll find his video here: Second Life Content Creation Meeting 4-20-17. (760p) He is playing with streaming. So, you can watch the meeting live streamed in his channel.

This video is my recording. (1080) It is missing the first 15 minutes. But, the silent portions of the video are time-compressed to lessen run time. Plus a bit of post meeting discussion is included.

I do the video to experiment and practice with Adobe Premiere. The big difference between the two videos is I use a SpaceNavigator and Medhue is using a mouse.

Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2017.1 Update

If you are using Adobe’s Premiere, you find that making titles and placing text in you video has changed, drastically. The replacement for Titles is NOT intuitive. It is better but, you need a hint or two to get started.

See: Create Titles With The New Type Tool And Essential Graphics Panel In Premiere Pro Cc 2017.1 (Spring) Released 4/19/2017.

The tutorial will get you started.

I find fancy titles are still easier to make in Photoshop. You can import them as PNG, to preserve transparency. You can also import the PSD file. All the fancy effects (AFAIK) are brought in.

The new ‘Essential Graphics’ panel can be docked. Click on the panel name, not the top window bar as in most programs, and drag to where you want it.

I did crash Premiere in the first 10 minutes…
