This article is my impression of the new RC2 version of the Kirsten Viewer. I’ll cover the new features and changes in the section titled Experience. (Download)

Things about SL
KirstenLee has put out Release Candidate 2 of the S21(4) Viewer. See: Build 4 RC2… I’m downloading but I won’t get to use it for a few hours yet, work is in the way. But, I am looking forward to trying it. I’ll put up a review later this weekend.
A new release of Phoenix Viewer is coming. This is a bug fix type release. There is another Preview of the Firestorm Viewer coming, Preview 2. The recent Phoenix Office Hour on Rezzed.tv covered many of the aspects of the viewers. One important point covered is the future of Profiles, which you REALLY need to read about. My summary of the hour’s content follows.
Not that we ever have any in Second Life… But someone at Linden Lab has apparently talked about adding features from the Firestorm Viewer to the Snowstorm Viewer Project. Some bloggers are saying that means the Phoenix/Firestorm team has partnered with Linden Lab. That sort of implies a paper agreement. Jessica Lyon in the recent Phoenix Hour show says there is no formal partnership, no signed agreements. They are sharing code and features. After all that is the purpose of open source.

Jacek Antonelli has posted another update about the Imprudence/Kokua viewers. Not much is happening. Nor is there likely much going to happen in February. Seems current technical viewer problems have drained motivation. Additional administrative problems have further degraded motivation. So, in all… not much is happening.
If you are new, the Snowstorm Project is about developing the Second Life Viewer. There is a mix of things going on in the project. Mostly boring bug and user interface fixes. There are a few things the Lindens need help with. read on to see if you can help.
Button Placement – some buttons are getting covered up by overrunning text and others by options pushing things around. There are JIRA’s on these. If you notice it, add your information to the appropriate JIRA.

It is getting a little complex keeping you clearly informed about KirstenLee’s viewer releases with terms that accurately convey a viewer’s status. It is hard to be clear about which is a production viewer, test or Beta viewer, and a Release Candidate. The problem is some of the code is Linden Lab code not yet in the SL Beta or Standard viewers, which sort of makes all the Kirsten viewers pre-beta viewers. The distinctions are blurred. Suffice to say to say, the Kirsten viewers are as bleeding edge as they come.
The S21(3) is KirstenLee’s official current release. It is available for download.
KirstenLee’s current release announcement is about S21(4) Release Candidate 1 or Kirstens S21 2.6.0.4 RC1, which is available as of 2/7.
