#SL Server Update Week 29

For the Lindens this was a bit of a hectic week. Originally Creative Tools was to roll the main grid, it did. A maintenance package was to roll to Blue Steel, it did. Pathfinding was to roll to Le Tigre and Magnum. That last one did not happen. Read on for the details.

Server Beta Test Group

Oskar says at the last minute they decided to put Creative Tools (AKA: Advanced Creative Tool, AKA Experience Tools) on Le Tigre and enable the Tools a number of regions in the channel. Pathfinding was updated to a new release with a number of fixes in Magnum.

Hectic

Oskar explained some of the scheduling and work load around the roll outs. He says the weeks when they have three RC’s rolling out are really confusing because they have so much to watch, monitor, and track.

#SL Vehicle Problems

This roll out of the Pathfinding code has caused a number of people problems. The wackadoodles are ranting in the forum. Those helping fix the problem are adding to the JIRA’s and creating new JIRA items. The forum thread is an exercise in ignorant arrogance by entitlement types… they are basically demanding: it’s a problem, you fix it. The Lindens have been looking for problem vehicles for weeks now. They need specific examples to learn what is wrong. Once they know they can create a fix, workaround, or explain what the problem is.

If one cannot provide specific steps for reproducing the problem, the Lindens can’t fix it. The vehicles they are using and testing work. So, if one is not going to provide specifics then please specify which hand you want them to wave in the air.

The thread is a good example for why Lindens tend to avoid conversing with residents.

Second Life News Week 29

Firestorm

Today the Third Party Viewer List was updated and the new Firestorm Viewer release has moved to the top of the list, being the most stable viewer in use, congratulation FS/PH Team.

Dolphin Viewer 3 follows Firestorm and is ahead of Imprudence.

I have yet to crash while using Firestorm… There are other minor annoyances, but crashing is not one of them.

More Phoenix users are changing to Firestorm. There are no numbers out on how many or how fast. They are rather secretive about those numbers.

Main Channel

This week the main grid is getting new software. The Lindens have decided the Advanced Creator Tools will be rolled out to the main channel. The Advanced Tools are also known as Experience Tools. These are the functions that were used to build Linden Realms.

#SL ADITI Fixed

If you use the ADITI grid for proofing your various types of builds, you’ll be glad to know that Maestro Linden has just changed the status of SVC-7727Aditi grid problem. After changing my password to cause my inventory on Aditi to update, my inventory no longer saves changes made to it from session to session. The JIRA item is now marked FIXED.

I think I was part of some Linden experimenting because I saw my account on ADITI start working a couple of weeks ago. I had been dealing with problems on ADITI since the beginning of March and adding to the JIRA every so often.

Maestro suggests that your follow these steps and try ADITI again.

  1. Change your AGNI password, meaning change your login password. This affects all Second Life logins.
  2. Wait 24 hours.
  3. Log into ADITI.

That is simple enough. Of course if you see the problem after waiting the 24 hours, say so in the JIRA.

I changed my password today at about 3:15 PM SLT. I’ll try logging into ADITI sometime after 3:15 PM tomorrow.

Second Life News Update Week 27

You may have had problems logging in Thursday. Around 1 PM SLT things were getting sorted out. Thursday was to be the main roll out to the main channel. That had to stop because of network outages. I was trying to make it in about that time. No login errors. Viewer would just sit there doing nothing.

Beta Server Meeting

As to exactly what the network problems were no one is saying. That means either they don’t know, some information travels slowly within the Lab, or it was security related.

The roll of the Pre-rendered Library Avatars package was stopped. The Linden regions got the roll. The network outages forced a stop before the roll out could be completed. So, the grid is in a rather unique state this week and will be until next Tuesday. Then the Pre-Render package will go grid wide.

#SecondLife News Week 26

The Lab is doing a bit of server update dance this week. The roll outs took longer than past roll outs on Tuesday, or that is the rumor from some people’s subjective experience. New roll out tools are being used. They will be optimized and get faster as time passes. One of the new features, if I understand correctly, is the ability to update the server’s operating system and roll out a new simulator package too.

Server Scripting User Group

So, this week we get new operating systems and simulator updates.

Magnum Release Channel

This channel was to get the Pathfinding package. Actually it did. BUT… there were problems with the package. So, it was rolled back and the Pre-rendered Avatar Textures package was rolled to the Magnum channel.
